Rephrase "Manually Shown" in 24265 and "Show Avatar" in 23179 etc
24265 Download Prioritize Manually Shown is the title of 2nd option of MM > Settings > Avatar > Avatar Download Prioritization This Manually Shown means selecting the "eye available icon" option of "Avatar Display" on QM > User details > User Actions. (see the 2nd image) I think this Manually Shown is unclear because: The QM does not express the selection as Manually Shown in a text but only in an icon. There are other options to show or hide avatars. These are the avatar options in the Safety Custom Shield Level and the avatar culling settings. So users could be confused or misunderstand it as meaning the other option. Another string has the same issue: 23179 Allow override with "Show Avatar" IIRC, the Manually Shown option in the QM (discussed above) was labeled "Show Avatar" in the old style QM. When written, 23179 may have been correct and precise, but it is not now. It becomes a misleading expression, especially for newcomers who don't see the old QM. So, I offer reviewing and rewording these: 23179 Allow override with "Show Avatar" / option label in MM > Settings > Avatar > Avatar Culling 14753 Allow selected user's avatars to override culling settings. / tooltip of 23179 24265 Download Prioritize Manually Shown / option label in MM > Settings > Avatar > Avatar Download Prioritization 15167 Click to prioritize downloading avatars from users you've manually shown. / tooltip of 24265 24903 Shown avatar download prioritization disabled / alert of 24265 becomes off 24905 Shown avatar download prioritization enabled / alert of 24265 becomes on 23185 Prioritize Manually Shown Avatars / outdated version of 24265? Rephrase the category title Avatar Optimizations
There is a setting category named Avatar Optimizations in Main Menu > Settings > Avatars . I think this is not appropriate because what the user can do here is not optimization of avatars. So, could you rephrase it? In this context, the word "optimization" refers to actions taken by the avatar authors and what results in the avatar performance rank. Indeed, setting items in this category somehow relates to optimizing avatars, but these items are not for optimizations. (Theoretically, it is possible to understand that it is "optimization", like "optimize avatar representation by replacing them with fallback". But I believe we must avoid two meanings of "optimization" here.) In the localization Discord, we discussed this issue https://discord.com/channels/1096246414603997194/1154207112176607275/1281953140165447803 I summarize the suggestions: Avatar Blocking By Optimized Level This idea concludes that what the user can do is "blocking" Continuing to use the expression "optimize" Avatar Size Limit Because the items in this category are all some kind of "size" Translated back from Simplified Chinese localization Cons: "size" is not accurate in blocking by performance rank Avatar Culling by Performance This idea concludes that items in this category relate to "performance" Cons: It is confusing because the next category is Avatar Culling Note about Avatar Culling The Quick Menu contains Avatar Culling and it doesn't contain Avatar Optimizations . We should be careful about this point when rephrasing. The word "culling" is too technical, and it might be better to rephrase it with like "hiding". However, it might be a separate issue. Technically, those two categories seem to be different. Avatar Optimization is the condition applied to loading. Avatar Culling is the runtime selection to hide. So "culling" is not a general word here; instead, it is a technical term meaning runtime temporary removal, like "Occlusion Culling" or "Animator Culling" in Unity terminology.
