Previously, the primary colors that stood out were the blue, green, orange, and red status indicators. Now that large solid-color banners dominate the interface, the status icons are much less noticeable, making the interface more visually tiring to use.

Good feedback. The status colors carried most of the signal in the old list, and big solid banners do compete with them for attention.
We don't have a change scheduled for this yet so I don't want to promise a fix, but it's noted, and it lines up with other reports about colors fighting each other in list views.

Tupper - VRChat Head of Community The overall visibility has undeniably gotten worse.
The Social menu was already cumbersome to use, since you had to open each friend's profile individually just to check whether they were in a Private instance. Now, with avatar previews removed and colors becoming much more visually cluttered, it feels even less usable.
I don't mind what specific solution is chosen, but I hope future UI changes focus on improving usability rather than changing things for the sake of change.
