[1878] The new social menu UI feedback and suggestions
TheCreationKing
I dislike the new UI update for the July 2026 open beta, but I want to be flexible to change. So I've tried finding objective points to actually call out and adjust rather than just suggest going back to the current live menu. (Example edit at bottom)
1 - The main social menu feel overstimulating. The new flat color for banners, which are now the default and randomized, overlayed with the player icons make it harder to focus on individual players, names are no longer yellow for friends on top of that it's just hard to look for anyone specifically. The fix I think is either make a 'no banner' option which is the default, or make the avatar image the default and make an empty custom icon not overlay.
2 - The actual player profile, it's based on the website. Which is not really the ideal UI either. It feels like a mobile social media 'about me' page, which I as I adjust to that mindset is kind of ok? It's not traditional VRChat feeling, feels more like a discord parody. But, the layout is so vertical, my screen nor main menu are vertical. I also don't really want to see my favorited worlds list in my own profile, that's what my worlds menu is for. My groups are more openly displayed? I don't mind my groups having been public, but it's now more prominent of an exposed part of my online identity. It's even alphabetical instead of the ones I organized specifically to be at the top.
The nameplates, actually I think they're fine. A few small issues, that other canny reports have specific reports for. So, let me move on to suggestions to adress my specific issues.
- Social Menu
-like I said, vibrant color banners as a default for every single person, hurts my eyes. Sometimes, bland is ok. A "no banner" default, or a "no icon" default mixed with avatar picture being the default would fix it. And 2, yellow names are necessary. Bring them back.
- Player profile
-I was dedicated to really understanding why I dislike this. And my main complaint turns out to be, it's too tall. All the main info, which from here on I'll call the "player bubble", on the left reaches down past the main view. The entire player bubble should be visible in 1 screen (ESPECIALLY the note). Because that's who I'm opening the menu for.
-To do this, I moved the links to the right of the player icon. It makes more sense there anyways. I had to get a bit more creative with the note, so I made the note in the area with the languages. Not my proudest choice here.
-The badges were also in their own distinct bubble, which is weird because they're part of the player themself. They aren't separate in the way that the world is, they aren't that important. So I also placed them next to the player links. I think it fills out that space nicely.
-Then, the "current avatar" bubble. Really, it just needs to be removed. I have an avatar menu dedicated to it, I don't need a reminder of the avatar I'm in.
-Uploaded worlds should remain in the bottom area. In my particular edit, I don't have them there. Imagine they are still there in the horizontal format.
-Favorited worlds should remain there, but only the ones you have set to public. I don't need a reminder of my privately favorited worlds list, again, I have a menu dedicated to this.
-Lastly, groups. Revert to the old single display, or at the very least change it to the order you have your groups in. Keeping in the "entire profile should be visible in one screen" philosophy, only 3 groups would fit there anyway. Having the one banner, same as live, would just be better for self chosen expression.

- (Social Tab Player Images) (img1, img2)
but, Avatar images are not set as defaulted on, which is very very bad, which leads to all these random colors in social pages (img2)
some might enjoy being more private, which is understandable, but all these random colors make it very difficult to tell a person from how they are based on what avatar they are wearing, like they could be a troll and/or using a bad avatar, and you'd never know until you show them and get crashed or see something you dont want to.
- (Player Profile) (OP img)
the profile given by the OP is great, but i still feel the UI for the Main player is way too big and oppressive, and such you still have to cram alot below and scroll down to see more, and that isnt user-friendly in my opinion.
The old, live profile never needed you to scroll too much if at all, it was mainly and only just the bio, so it was all fine to begin with, now to look at groups for information or ice-breakers, you have to do so much to just get to the person's profile, its worse then the website, because the website actually fit it into one screen.
- (Nameplate Clutter) (img3, img4, img5)
Our friend nameplates seem fixed, yippee, they are so much more readable and clear again, especially when far away, but the groups and pronouns and status are too cluttered still.
Groups are nearly completely hidden from nameplates making them nearly useless to represent, funny groups or ice-breaker groups like Pineapple Pizza are now un-seen due to them basically hiding behind nameplates at all times.
(Check img3 and 5 for a comparison on how grass group looks on Live vs New UI)
(Check img4 for the Pineapple pizza group being nearly hidden.)
And the new discord nameplate decor i fear will make pronouns useless/hard to read aswell if not carefully made (such like a summer decor in a bright world)
(Check Img4 and 5 for before and after of having Pronouns and Status, and not.)
- Nameplate part 2 electric boogaloo (img3, img5, img6)
Also, the Text for our names, and status, and pronouns, are slightly smaller, even when using the exact same nameplate settings.
(see img3 and 5 for comparison)
