[1642] remember my last selected avatar submenu!
°sky
opening the avatars menu from the QM launches the explore tab, rather than the last tab i had opened. remember this the same way you remember my microphone state.

Thanks for the feedback. We plan on keeping the current behavior for now, but we've noted your feedback and we'll keep an eye on things as more people get access to the Avatar Marketplace.

This is absolutely a predatory marketing decision that just gets in the way of users who are not going to use the system every time they open it, like an unblockable ad.
Even for people who buy some avatars, after they have bought some avatars already, they do not need to keep defaulting to the store as they will just want to switch to the list of avatars they already bought.
It is an inconvenience to everyone.
I have some faith in VRChat being able to establish a market within its systems - as the marketing UI itself seems to work alright and seems to be a good start to build off of.
I think if VRChat were to add more things to buy that players really want, which will naturally happen as good creators add good avatars, or totally new concepts are added like maybe avatar accessories and props, they will find more people intentionally wanting to go to the market to see what is available instead of trying to shoehorn us into it.
In the long run, I don't believe VRChat will need to rely on a predatory tactic that sacrifices everyone's goodwill and convenience in the mean time.

[1643] Make the avatar page remember your last active tab
Chdata
I am an avatar creator with 500 uploads.
I don't need the marketplace.
I want to view my avatars when I open the avatar tab, not the marketplace.
If I ever want to use the marketplace, I will seek it out on my own anyway, I know where it is, as it opens there by default at least once anyway.
The tab for it is directly next to the button I always click, I'm not going to forget how to find it.
I'd like the last viewed tab to be persistent.

[1643] Preserve last opened tab when we opened the Avatars page of the Main Menu after VRChat relaunch

Please preserve the last opened tab when we opened the Avatars page of the Main Menu after VRChat relaunch.
I know VRChat wants to invite users to buy avatars on Avatar Marketplace, but I think current behavior is too aggressive and annoying.
I think preserving the last opened tab does not lose the intention of VRChat to invite users to buy avatars on Avatar Marketplace, and it is more user-friendly.
For the first time when we open Avatars page for new users, I agree with showing Explore tab to them is good.
However, after buying some avatars, I think most of the users want to choose from their bought avatars, not new avatars on Avatar Marketplace.
After a while, when users want to use new avatars, they can open Avatar Marketplace from Explore tab.
In addition, for current heavy users of VRChat, they have already uploaded many avatars, so they want to choose from their own avatars, not new avatars on Avatar Market Place.
When they want to buy avatars on VRChat, they simply open Avatar Marketplace from Explore tab.
Therefore, I think it is better to preserve the last opened tab when we opened Avatars page of the Main Menu after VRChat relaunch.

Tupper - VRChat Head of Community sad to see this is the decision. you mightnt have seen given how many posts you responded to, but theres a lot of active dislike for this decision. please change this decision as to avoid enshittification of the platform.

To clarify, the selected tab should already save within one session (as in, it only resets when restarting the client) - if that is not the case, there may be a bug. The "Explore" tab being the default after a fresh client start is currently intentional, although your feedback is noted internally.

_tau_rather disappointing to see that it intentionally does not remember the state i left it in. as somebody who is not the target demographic of the avatar marketplace it feels rather dragging to have to go through more menus to reach where i want to
bote
_tau_ If there's anything that screams "good user experience," it's additional clicks to access staple features of an application, especially when those clicks are just added to put monetization methods in a user's face. It being once per session means it was a mindful decision to put it in our faces.
I'm all for the creator economy but this will just needlessly generate user resentment.

_tau_ Not going to lie, this makes me even less likely to even consider using it, it just feels overtly aggressive, I open my avatars to open my avatars not a shop, this is really tedious as someone who is not part of this demographic its aiming for.

_tau_ Agreed with the resentment. I already pay for VRC+. But I need to be reminded to pay more every session? Because I'm not already supporting the platform? Or not enough? This isn't it.
Especially so in that I have uploaded custom avatars, which the marketplace doesn't allow for, since VRChat refuses to allow sellers provide source files with the purchase and actively tells sellers that providing them is a risk in the FAQ. My uploaded avatars should take precedence, since VRChat isn't meeting me at this need and I'm already supporting the platform.

[1642] Avatar Page Defaults to the Explore Page
Zuxi
When opening the Avatar Menu it should default to My Avatars instead of Explore. i believe most users don't always want to see what’s available it feels a bit forced. and most users will not always want to buy a new avatar Ideally it should be moved to the Moved to the Marketplace tab OR make it not default
MyroP
If we change to a favorited avatar 99% of the time, then the "My avatar" option should be preselected indeed, this would improve the UX.
I like the idea of moving the "Explore" tab in the marketplace sub menu.
Rstein
counterpoint: it defaulting to 'Explore' being intentional. Wouldn't even surprise me if so.
