[1642] remember my last selected avatar submenu!
°sky
opening the avatars menu from the QM launches the explore tab, rather than the last tab i had opened. remember this the same way you remember my microphone state.

As a professional ui/ux designer of eight years, Here's how you fix it;
Rollback the original avatar menu.
Move the new Avatar Market component to the Marketplace tab, where it should've been to start with, for a consistent and intuitive storefront.
Specific feedback;
The new avatar menu pane design fails basic ux design on several counts;
It's inconsistent with the rest of the client app.
It prioritizes browsing, and assigns the largest button to Details over Applying an avatar for a purchase-focused layout and makes it harder to apply avatars because it's a secondary button. This is bad design when the primary use-case should ALWAYS be the user applying owned avatars.
The tick doesn't infer what it does at a glance vs "Apply". Position should also be swapped with the Details button, which can be inferred by using the avatar quality icons instead of text for visual shorthand of the details tab and the avatar's rating itself.
None of these changes should require major code changes that may break a build, only moving existing component placement in the UI layout and icon change on existing buttons.

The real-quick version is even easier; I'd infer the avatar component of the client is an indexed array value from how it's 'saved' in-game. If this is the case, just change the default from 0 to 1 (Ie; My Avatars instead of Explore), or whatever it's equivalent is.

Dont you guys believe that this will drive even buyers off?
Like nobody I talked to likes this. Noone.
Ive never bought anything from an ingame store that put that stuff in my face 24/7.

Avatar tab should default to Owned avatars, not the Avatar Store
Whaddageek
We use our own avatars every day, and the store occasionally in the best use-case scenario.
Why would we want to look at the store every time we want to change avatars.

So they're supposedly working on testing changes.... I do genuinely hope this isn't just lip service from whoever is calling the shots behind the scenes.
I'll be blunt. I know it costs money to run and develop a game. But pushing monetization through annoying ui changes and dark patterns? That's the kind of behavior you'd see out of a lot of mobile games, and it's one of the many reasons i stopped playing them. That and the premium currency, or the urge to paywall things. I really just don't want to see this game turn into the equivalent to one of those predatory mobile games.
ElfMom
★ Klonoa ★they have a lot of money from investors to pay back, on a game that is difficult to really monetize in a simple/subtle way. unfortunately, they didn't paywall avatar/world uploads from the get-go, so it's kind of too late to do that now otherwise you can bet they would have. So instead, every new feature they roll out will be somehow monetized.

While not the biggest issue, it is an unnecessary pain point and very much an example of a "dark pattern ui" whether it was intention or not. It needs to be fixed either by switching the Explore and My Avatar tabs or allowing us to set a default tab.
Miss Widgey
A lot of people are likening this design choice to a pop-up ad that impedes basic user functionality, which is very apt. Glad our feedback is finally is being considered after the weirdly callous initial response.

[1645] Opening Avatars menu directs to Explore page first
-Emberrr-
Every time I open VRChat and go to the Avatars tab of the menu, it defaults to the Explore page first. Adding extra inputs and load times when wanting to change avatars.
Once you change to the 'My Avatars' tab, the game persists that option for the remainder of the session, though it doesn't save between sessions. Even having an option to choose the default page would be better than what it is now. It's minor, but it's frustrating.

It doesn't make any sense to always default to the marketplace. Who in their right mind would expect that someone opening the avatar menu is most likely looking to purchase something? I have dozens of avatars I made, I'm just trying to pick from my own uploads. Disruptive, annoying, poor design, feels manipulative. Ugh.
