Require content using generative AI to declare it
°sky
Content that uses generative AI should have to declare that it is being used, and should be able to be filtered out of search results and recommendations by the user.

Setting the option to filter it, and that creators will need to declare it, will set a standard going forward for AI content that the online world badly needs. At the moment AI is too invasive and uses too much of others content without permission.

At the very least disclosure should be a thing. Being able to filter it would be nice but disclosing that something was made with generative tools should probably be implemented as these tools unfortunately gain more and more traction.
I know of at least three major world creators who pad their maps with generative slop and skyboxes and don't disclose it at all. The fact it's so normalized is frankly disappointing since currently none of these tools have proper regulations in place to protect the creators they're scraping from.

Tagging AI is already known to be equivalent to pouring gasoline onto the generative AI garbage fire. Just look at literally every major social platform that eagerly implemented this kind of tag to /promote/ it.
AI tagging makes it extremely easy for an AI scraper to filter-out its own content, and makes it easier for Gen AI promoters to programmatically inflate the visibility of Gen AI content with fake users and bot accounts.
Currently, VRChat enjoys a relative lack of sludgy Gen AI content compared to other platforms where it comprises nearly all of it, because the minimum difficulty of making content is just high enough and the potential audience is just small enough that it isn’t very economical to generate truly gigantic amounts of generative garbage worlds to unilaterally extract value from the platform at scale.

hdorriker this is a good point, adding this future would make vrchat a target for data scraping. add this future when AI generated content is a big problem, not before
serasarg
hdorriker I'm genuinely curious to know just how AI scrapers would be deployed on a platform like VRChat, given how the data is distributed via Cloudflare's services downstream for VRChat as a platform.
At that point I would imagine it would be akin to modded ripping software, processing the assets wanted before uploading them to a service. Such things would be trackable to an extent via the API key on the logged in user account afaik, and who's going to really go to that effort at that point?
Snackcat
serasarg The original point is an excuse for inaction.
kawashirov
Is this even a problem? How many AI content in VRC?
serasarg
kawashirov Quite a lot, especially for assets in worlds i.e. textures, AIgen images etc.
Haxy
How on earth do you hope to ever enforce that?
serasarg
Haxy The same way that tags get updated: Reporting. If people can't be honest enough to tick a box, then that's a damn shame on the people of this platform at this point.
Haxy
serasarg waste of energy, moderation have real issues to deal with instead of this
Snackcat
Haxy Plenty of people have valid reasons to oppose AI.

This should be added sooner rather than later to be honest. Though in my opinion it shouldn't be allowed at all.
