Mac Client

Would love to see a client for MacOS now that SteamVR is out for it! Even if it's just a desktop client and only available for developer use, it'd really help out creators like myself and Owlboy who make our worlds on Mac machines.

I'll also love to have VR chat on mac, is it not possible to have a list of the shaders that need to be compiled for Metal?
Maybe people of the community that want to can compile them and upload them? Im sure I'll help if that meant to have a MacOS version of VR Chat

Now that the M1 Pro / M1 Max is available with much faster built in GPU this should be a thing.

Kelar: shader support is a hurdle to overcome to add another platform of any sort.
It would be a bummer to have a Mac/Linux/PS5 client, but have the “this was not uploaded for Quest” issue 100x more.

owlboy: Yeah I learned this is the big reason there
isn't
VRC for [insert platform here], even as a desktop/mobile client.Unity (the engine VRC is built upon)
has no concept of cross-platform assets.
And as VRC worlds & avatars are just unity asset packages, they have to be "built" and packaged, meaning they have to be done so for each platform VRC supports
.Even if VRC made a dedicated effort for a Mac client, at this point it'd just be official worlds and Mac enthusiasts who'd use it.
Granted, a Mac client could also potentially open up the door for an iOS client, as long as they use Metal APIs and build it as a universal app for iOS & Mac. — So you might get people on board just for that.
But the vast catalog of even Quest content would be unavailable out of the gate.
Maybe in the future if "SDK 4.0" or what-have you introduces a custom "universal" asset format (tangentially similar to Udon and scripts).

Nowadays Mac standard Mac hardware are pretty good for VR. It was surprise for me, but my MacBook Pro 16 works just perfect in VR. And it works on heights possible graphic settings in non optimise Windows. So I only can imagine how it could work on MacOS Metal =3
Yeah, for now Mac users are ready for VR and all hardware from resent years will be pretty compatible with VR.

There's seemingly NO REASON to NOT have VRChat on MacOS! I use windows, but am unable to play VRChat with a good friend of mine just because they have a mac. Apple products are dumb as hell, but I wanna be able to play with my friends, regardless of whether its a mac or not. Atleast give us, the community, a CLEAR REASON as to why there is no MacOS support!
owlboy
fearful: They will tell you two big things, sadly:
- Maintenance of another build. This means more testing, etc.
- Shaders - Shaders need to be compiled for every platform VRChat targets. Currently, no shaders are being compiled to target Metal/OpenGL on macOS.
I would like VRChat on macOS myself. This is not intended to be a downer or proof it's not doable. It's very doable. It's a matter of will and resources being put behind it. - I think we will get there someday.

I would love to have VRChat on mac because I have been trying to access it but couldn't. It would make things so much easier.

Ever since GFN cut off unsupported games from everyone, everyone that played this game on a Mac couldn't access it anymore. There was also a twitter post back in 2017 about having this game be compatible with Mac but there was no further explanation about it. Everyone was left ignored. I am trying every method I can to re-join my community of friends.

There are users with versions already working on mac but those versions are "unauthorized"

Please add VRchat to Mac it would bring potential for those who do not have windows computers and are without VR devices a chance to experience the wonders of VRchat!

Yes WOULD LOVE A MAC VERSION, I love playing vrchat but having to do it through a Windows machine over the internet just ruins the experience...
