[1768] Steam Audio component regression
needs more information
notmintea
during the Steam Audio Beta, world creators could use the official Steam Audio unitypackage in their worlds to enable
Directionality (Simulation Defined)
and Attenuation (Curve Driven)
, allowing control over the "width" and "vector" of the audio (e.g. audio could be massively attenuated when the listener was behind the source)as of 2025.4.2, build 1768, this functionality is no longer present on existing and new uploads. please note this is not a report on the Steam Audio Component as a whole, there are features that are confirmed not to be implemented - this is a report on two specific features that were confirmed by the community to work prior to the release of Steam Audio

Hey, do you have a world ID or link to a world that had Directionality or Attenuation enabled?

one of my worlds used this component heavily,
kinetic
(id: wrld_b9a5532d-5c49-4938-88ff-2a1d948231cb
)the bossa nova lounge
also used this extensively (id: wrld_b8c7eb68-354a-4ec0-a9e4-68e88e2bcad9
)neither of these worlds exhibit the audio behavior that was initially noted pre-1768, and both of these worlds have not been updated as of build 1768. theoretically, they should still have these features enabled, but are audibly different now
in
kinetic
's case, i had made some bluesky posts showcasing an audio setup that used Steam Audio's directionality
and attenuation
in world, and that is part of my references to confirm the behavior has changed since then_

notmintea: I don't see anything special about these worlds. We never allowed these components to be used, and I don't see any way that they ever could have been in-use.
We publicly stated and documented multiple times that _no_ Steam Audio components are supported and you should _not_ install Steam Audio into world SDK projects. This is entirely unsupported.
Which build did you specifically see this working before? Do note that 1768 itself is the exact same build as 1767, the last beta build for Steam Audio. There were no changes whatsoever in that specific revision.

All steam audio components are currently stripped from worlds during loading, they will be added again later with a sdk update to switch the editor over to steamaudio, i am also not aware of them being usable in any public release currently
notmintea
at some point during the Steam Audio Beta, they were not stripped; we tested this more than once and in many different worlds
i'm personally more worried about the consistent failure to document these changes in a way that allows us to prepare for entire functionality to be lost
