Default Keys/Keybinds Feedback PC
Auzlex
Hello, here is my feedback on the third-person beta:
F5 as the default toggle feels out of place, since it’s widely used for refresh/reload in browsers, Windows Explorer, and even some world content (e.g., ProTV). A different default key would avoid conflicts with some existing content.
Desktop item holding: the usual scroll functionality is lost unless Alt is pressed. I suggest keeping scroll as-is, and using "ALT + SCROLL" to trigger third person. When the camera is adjusted, movement keys (WASD) should remain relative to the character, not force rotation toward a direction.
Camera controls: holding down "Alt" while in third person using the mouse could serve as an alternate easy way for moving the camera (instead of the hard switch with Tab).
+ "SHIFT + ALT + SCROLL WHEEL" could handle vertical camera movement.
+ "ALT + MIDDLE MOUSE" could adjust view angles/shoulder perspective.
I understand these bindings won’t suit everyone, but since interaction prompts are already included, they could help guide users through new alternative controls without confusion, better I say something than nothing I suppose.

I do very much have to agree, particularly about the zoom behavior. I'm very used to interacting with objects with the old default behavior, and in addition to this, I'm moving objects closer and further away from me MUCH more often than I am adjusting the third-person camera zoom. Whether as an option or whatever else, I'd much prefer to hold alt to zoom the third-person camera, and have the object interaction behavior remain consistent with how it is on the live client

For context, F5 has been a staple third-person view hotkey in one of the best-selling video games of all time: Minecraft, since 2009-2011.

WubTheCaptain F5 as a reload key became conventional in the late 90s.

I'd be happy to replace vowgan's 3rd person camera in my worlds just to get rid of the performance overhead in the first, but for that the native alternativity should be a worth replacements. Currently it just feels like a really simple prototype that is far from release ready.
It should definitely have more features, but most importantly have more reasonable keybinds, which F5 is definitely not the right choice, as way too many TVs etc make use of it, some other common F keys like F6 and F7 also already become very standard for volume controls.
