Before, you were able to easily tell whether you were muted or unmuted. The indicator was displayed directly in your main viewing area, which made it easy to check your microphone status at a glance.
Now it has been moved to the upper-right corner, which I think is bad UI design.
Many people do not naturally look at the corners of their screen while playing a game. Those areas are outside the comfortable focus area of the human eye, especially on 21:9 or even wider monitors. I mainly look toward the center of my screen and do not constantly check the corners for important UI information.
That kind of placement might work for something like Grand Theft Auto 7, but it does not make much sense for VRChat, where knowing whether you are muted is something you may want to check constantly and instantly.
If you are going to keep this new UI layout, then at least make it optional for widescreen users and for people who simply prefer the previous placement.
Never touch a running system
, as I always say.
