[1546]Request for Reconsideration of Recent Changes to Video Playback Permissions
laoleic4
I am writing to express my strong dissatisfaction with the recent update to the video player in public instances. The decision to restrict video playback to only whitelisted domains is a significant step backward and will negatively impact the creativity and enjoyment of many users.
While I understand the need to prevent the playback of malicious content, this blanket restriction is overly broad and disproportionate. It unfairly penalizes content creators who rely on embedding videos from various platforms to enhance their worlds. Additionally, it limits the ability of users to discover new and interesting content.
I propose the following alternatives:
Implement a more granular content filtering system. This could involve using a combination of blacklists, whitelists, and content analysis to identify and block harmful content.
Provide users with more control over their video playback settings. This could include the ability to allow or block specific domains, as well as adjust the playback quality and size.
Educate users about the risks of playing untrusted content. This could be done through in-game messages, tutorials, and community forums.
By adopting these suggestions, the developers can effectively address the security concerns without stifling creativity and innovation.
I urge you to reconsider this decision and work towards a more balanced approach that benefits both creators and users.
