Left Hand 'Legacy Fingers' can't achieve full grip pose
available in future release
Salbug
Doesn't seem to be a binding issue specifically as I checked and both controllers matched, but on
Legacy Fingers
mode, the left hand specifically can't fully achieve a grip pose even when pressing the trigger on the controller down.Log In

[1481] Harder to curl fingers smoothly with Index controllers
gummyd
With Index controllers, I've found that it's much harder to curl my fingers smoothly compared to Live, especially the middle/ring/pinky fingers. I practically have to grip the controller to get those fingers to curl, and the finger kind of jerks from straightened to bent.
On Live, it's a lot smoother and I can see my avatar fingers smoothly curl continuously while curling my fingers.

You can merge in my canny with this one, https://feedback.vrchat.com/open-beta/p/1481-harder-to-curl-fingers-smoothly-with-index-controllers
The videos posted here show the same issues I've had with finger curling just being much more jerky and jank in general on beta than live.
Legacy Fingers makes it feel a little better but it's still pretty bad compared to live.

[1485] Open Beta legacy finger tracking is a awful downgrade
Myrkur
A lot of VRChat players prefer to use legacy finger tracking there is a reason the feature was requested, as the new splay added to the finger tracking looks awful on many models, the index doesn't have splay floats so artificially adding them looks very unnatural to a lot of players. Ive gone ahead and created two videos from Live 1472 and Beta 1485 and these are not at all comparable, this is more like legacy + removed tracking points.
Open Beta 1485: https://youtu.be/GVV9QtsY0B0
you can no longer properly close your hands and now thumb tracking has gone completely.
Live 1472: https://youtu.be/_caGQNvgi5o
Live looks an immeasurable amount better than open beta legacy finger tracking with hands properly closing and thumbs being tracks on all 6 points on the controller (A button, B Button, Track Pad top and bottom, system button and the thumb-stick sensor.
Please implement the original finger tracking for index that is currently in live build 1472, what we have currently in Open Beta 1485 with legacy tracking enabled is a immeasurable downgrade.

1485: Legacy Fingers
maybe
feels a little smoother now than 1484? But I can't compare side-by-side. Still definitely feels more jerky than Live still. And confirmed the Avatars Use Finger Tracking toggle isn't relevant at all here.

Thanks! This has helped to identify two more issues. One is that we didn't update the default bindings with a needed bind (you can fix that on your end) and another is a bug that requires the trigger to be pulled on the right hand for full fist (will require a patch from us). With the bind added, the left hand should be functioning as expected.
To fix the bindings, in the Global action set tab, on the grip, add a button control, and under "touch" add gesture_activator_grip for each hand

Kung I've added the binding as a grab and adjusted the grab threshold to proximity 100, release on proximity 65, force grab 25 force release 0, that much more closely replicates the behavior on live but might need more tweaking.

Kung even with my trigger pressed its not fully closing my hands, this is with freshly reset bindings with no user made changes.

"Legacy Fingers" in the beta have a number of discrepancies with the "full grip", it does not work at all on the left hand and requires trigger pull with the right hand (trigger pull on the right hand will turn on the more "aggressive" curl for any finger on the grip).
On live "full grip" is achieved entirely by the grip, sometimes requiring a small bit of force to actuate (this happens to me somewhat exclusively with my right controller, wasn't always the case, however I'm not sure if that's due to aged hardware or a change that happened in VRChat within the past year or so) and usually 2 or more fingers on the grip, the trigger and/or thumb inputs have no impact whatsoever.
Another discrepancy of "Legacy Fingers" is that with the dashboard open the hand gesture will be the "claw" instead of "open hand", however I did not include that in the video. 1484 update: the "Legacy Fingers" toggle doesn't appear to help with this at all. Either way, curling is still jank. I forgot to test the "Avatars Use Finger Tracking" toggle, but that one may be it
Laxy
I found this to be an issue as well, it's noticeable harder for us to curl the fingers 'slowly'
