We need another "show avatar" button that doesn't override safety settings
Marshallizer
It would be nice to keep most avatars turned off but also have an option to manually toggle on avatars for specific individuals WITHOUT seeing their shaders, particles, animations, ect... (like custom safety settings)
The only option we have right now is the "show avatar" button and it overrides the safety settings which isn't ideal in public worlds because of crashers/performance loss.
This would also be a simple way to increase performance & minimize bandwidth for a lot of players! (if they choose to play like this)

There are a few similar requests for this already. I’ll share them when I get the chance.

Observer․: I've seen Robert Routon's post which has 79 votes. I haven't noticed any under review or in progress. I don't understand why these ideas don't have more votes when they'd clearly boost performance. I assume people think the current "show avatar" button is good enough when it's actually not... Unless you like getting crashed in public worlds.

Marshallizer: Yup here is the current list. Took me ages to find where I put it:
Dear canny moderators, can you please merge the posts so I don't have to scroll through a million canny posts to find these, thank you.

Observer․: This post in particular is a bit different from those three, but I can definitely merge those three.
We're well aware of this particular request (and in fact had the idea way back when we implemented Safety the first time around), but there are design, usability, and implementation concerns. We've decided to put it aside for the moment.
As a side-note, something being highly requested does not mean it is guaranteed implementation, but it does have a heavy influence on the decision.

Tupper - VRChat Head of Community: Yup similar for sure but I see why this one is separate.
Keep in mind when implementing features that not everything has to be fancy. Give us an advanced section in a menu with a warning popup if you have to. Or have menu items hidden unless a configuration option is in the text file. Just don’t leave things like the show avatar button as the only thing for years that will kill performance and defeats the whole point of the safety settings when used.

Tupper - VRChat Head of Community: Thanks for the response! I support any solution that allows us to show an individual avatar without having to always override safety settings. Go with whatever idea makes the most sense and is easier to implement.
This feature would be extremely useful because then we wouldn't have to download/show 25+ avatars if we could just manually toggle on a few at a time. The game would run way smoother and it doesn't really make sense to download people we aren't gonna talk to anyway. It's just wasted resources in my opinion.
