Dynamic Bones themselves could have a little more granularity, instead of just on/off. The real CPU killer is long chain dynamic bones. We could have a filter system that only allows a certain depth (maybe based on distance or frame rate).

hackspanner: While that would be an improvement, I'd like to see something like the particle limiter that was released recently if you are unsure about putting it in the menu. I've learned that I only really notice dynamic bones when people are in front of me so I would personally set a short range myself.

Could a built in Dynamic Bone alternative be an option? (As a VRC component?) Possibly allowing better control by the game system of when the bones are animated and at what physics quality rather then having the external script do the work.

Lewin: This was also submitted, and I fully support the notion! :D

I think the moment you disable something from someone you are kind of limiting how they want others to see then, if I spend days learning dynamic bones to use it on my hair, it is because I want everybody to see how cute and cool my character is, I did it for a reason, so what is the point to go all the way and do dynamic bones to have someone disable then? I know you are suggesting this to be a client side thing, but if someone is going to disable it because they have a potato computer... what is the point of me wasting my time on doing it?
Jazneo
Meewbs: it for people who want more performance experience over lagg hair even if you have set correct that person will see alot worse if there fps drops. more like your friend have it on but it reduce the problem for people can't handle low fps drops. It. it better then somone take away over reduce to point not useable

Meewbs: The issue here is that Dynamic Bone is a massive hit to CPU performance. For example, back before Dynamic Bone was widely used I could run two VRC windows under two VR headsets with 90 FPS on both, on the same PC. Now I have trouble running just one, and that’s on a significantly better specced PC than before. While it certainly makes avatars look great, it also murders the functionality of the app for a number of people, even users with higher end PCs.

It may also also be useful to have this take the form of a LOD system where distant avatars automatically have their dynamic bones and particles disabled until you get closer to them (dependent on the user's performance).
Kalista Phoenix
MehStrongBadMeh: That is already in place. I need to redo my avatar, because my giant fox has keyblades that stick straight out, because there's no dynamic bones for them. I need to adjust the default to be down by default because of it. and because I am technically out of range, and yet clearly in view, they see them stick straight out. It also causes problems for chest physics. if there's any gravity put on them, they will cause some odd effects when they go in and out of range.
I would rather have the option turned on and off on a per-player basis, instead of automatically turning on and off, or at least have the option of 3 choices: On, Auto, Off
Jazneo
MehStrongBadMeh: yea distant disable was add just problem everyone close each other so we need method just to turn off and on
Kalista Phoenix
Jazneo: On auto and Off.
On is always on, Auto is how it is now, based on distance, and off, to completly turn off dynamic bones (though would make me sad.)

or have a "mute" button for effects instead of sound for certain people if there are only a select few ruining it for everyone.

I could see this being highly beneficial for high density areas, and allowing people to continue using an avatar of their choice (granted it won't fix everything)
going to the improv last night, and everyone having to chance to that robot looking thing... was highly disappointing. I'd rather keep my individuality, than watch the show, to be honest.
I know my avatar has alot of dynamic bones, and I do have particle effects (that are activated by hand animation keys) I do have... alot of bones, but to have an option for someone to manually turn them off, I think would be the best option. Though I am planning on making a "minecraft" version of my phoenix ^-^
