Sudden disconnect buffer time / grace period
n a k u
Mainly for instances that are constantly at the 80 player cap, sometimes crashes happen and people get disconnected. It can be frustrating for event goers to lose their spot in a world from something they couldn't control.
If there was a grace period for users who are disconnected unexpectedly (Not leaving instance regularly or losing connection) to rejoin within like, 5 minutes or something, I think that would alleviate a lot of stressors in regards to general event experiences.

The grace period would be nice, but people will abuse it. If they have upwards of 5mins, they could leave the world, hop over to another world and then come back.
I think the core of the problem isn't about disconnecting. Many of the crashes happen because users refuse to wear optimized avis. I see so many people crash when a very poor with a hundred toggles loads in. Even if there's a sign at the front of the club requiring people to change to an optimized avi, people refuse to do it. The best thing to do is to solve the root cause instead of patching the symptoms.

agree for verypoor AVI being a "stressor" and that patching the symptom won't solve the issue.
i think some people have great PC, but poor internet connectivity, and that also affects things... whenever someone enters the lobby, their whole avatar gets analyzed and it creates a lag spike. this was also an issue where the first frame someone enters a world, the avatar loads at coordinate 0,0,0... which also create lagspikes if the avatar happens to be in your FoV
(i myself barely have had this issue, but i have wired gigabit... as opposed to when i'm running on wi-fi, this used to happen quite often when people with huge avatar joins the lobby...)

FloydianSound I think the lag spike on avatar load has been smoothed out a bit compared to last year

5 mins is waaay too long

A cool extra implementation detail I'd love to see, especially given the new instance create API as published in the recent dev log post - the ability to optionally customise the grace period on a per-instance basis, even if API only, would be massively helpful for people running events, as we can tailor the retention based on how we see the queue fill up from past event runs.
Updating this for an existing instance would be cool too, but it seems like y'all don't have an update instance metadata call at all. So at the very least, a property on instance create would be shwanky.

I agree, their have been events I crashed out of that killed my motivation to keep attending. Especially when I paid/took time off work to be there. A grace period for those who unintentionally disconnect would be great.
