Registration for Age Verification should require ONE purchase of VRChat+
Meathamski
Suggestion: You should be able to make a one time purchase of VRChat+ and then register for age verification ANY TIME.
Currently: Age Verification for VRChat requires you to be subscribed to VRChat+ to register. If you don't have VRChat+ the next month and you forgot to register or never realized it was a feature, you won't be able to register till you resubscribe.
The devs need money to do the age verification stuff. It can't exactly be made free easily.
This is such an important feature for moderation and its a giant hurdle to transition to as a big community because people don't have the money or didn't know registration was a thing when they did.

The problem with this is that VRC+ Subscriptions are seperatable from VRC+ Gifting, When you are gifted a + sub, Im sure if there was a seperation from self-bought Subscription and user gifted this could be a thing, since buying VRC+ is considered supporting the platform, and being gifted it necessary thats not you, its the gifter.

Comfy Chloe I don't see the relevance. This is about VRChat getting 5-10 bucks so they can pay for the age verification process... and anyone with a an active or inactive VRChat+ on their account being able to use the age verification registration regardless of if they have an active + subscription or not.
Doesn't matter who is paying for it. We just want to be able to age verify people legitimately and protect our communities.

Meathamski Age verification is about trusting the platform you want to be on, If someone is paying for your process, thats not You trusting the platform with your payment, Thats someone else, Seems rather evasive to me, The idea of AV Being being VRC+ Active subscriptions are a more effective manor of knowing that user will stay on the platform for awhile longer verses someone gifting it to an inactive user, Everything they do needs to make ecomic sence as VRChat needs money to operate, Letting that go could put the company in a bad spot.

Comfy Chloe this argument doesn't make any sense. In the end, it doesn't matter WHO gives VRC money - they received money tied to your account and it should qualify you for an age verification. Continuing subscription is also irrelevant - as it stands, if you pay one time, do the age verification, then cancel your Plus subscription, your age verification does NOT go away (and it shouldn't! That would just be a waste). All this canny is saying is anyone with a recent history of having had Plus should qualify for an age verification. How far back you'd qualify could be up for debate, but I agree with the OP.

This whole angle you're taking about "trusting the platform" by personally paying for VRChat Plus just doesn't hold up under scrutiny. You're acting like age verification is some kind of spiritual bond between a user and the company, when in reality it's just a paid service tied to an account. That's it. The only thing that matters is whether the platform got paid to process the verification.
If someone gifts a sub to another user, VRChat still gets the money. The account receiving the gift still ends up associated with a payment. Trying to draw a line between "self-paid" and "gifted" is arbitrary and meaningless from both a technical and financial perspective. You're creating a moral distinction where there is none.
And let’s really get into the logic of this. Are you saying a user who
wants
to be age verified but can’t afford a subscription should just be excluded unless they personally fund the payment? That’s not just elitist, it’s bad community policy. Plenty of legit users rely on gifted subs. That doesn’t make them less real, less trustworthy, or less deserving of access to age-restricted spaces. Also, your argument about "users staying on the platform longer" because they bought a sub themselves is a stretch. Newsflash: a gifted sub still gives the platform a financial incentive to keep that user around. You're not magically more loyal because you personally swiped the card.
The system should be simple. If an account has had VRChat Plus, regardless of how it was acquired, it should be eligible to register for age verification. That creates a fair path for more people to get verified without jumping through financial purity hoops.
This isn’t about vibes. It’s about function. And your version of gatekeeping helps no one.
