[Quest] Offer Selfie-Camera Recording & Broadcast
MisutaaAsriel
Whilst VRChat supports the selfie camera, it currently does not offer the ability to broadcast or capture video from it.
Whilst this is likely due to the Quest itself having built in recording functionality, and the limited nature of the Quest,
there are legitimate reasons why a user may wish to record the camera output, or broadcast it to another display (e.g. streaming)
.Likewise, seeing as *the Quest already supports the Google Cast protocol,
And Unity provides
an Asset Package to add Cast support to existing app
, it could be beneficial to support in-game broadcasting of the selfie-cam output via Cast
to an external display or Chromecast receiver for the purposes of external capture and broadcasting on services such as YouTube or Twitch
.Furthermore, to avoid performance concerns,
video frame-rate and resolution could be capped, to prevent undue load that exceeds the performance hit of native system capture methods
.As a Twitch streamer myself, it is
insanely difficult
to get a clean broadcast going, as I have to constantly keep a camera in view just so my viewers can see me talk, and the Quest system by default broadcasts mic audio, which may be subpar when I am already recording microphone audio separately.Log In
