QR code reader

Since there have been a recent increase in QR codes found on avatars, walls in worlds. That link to discords, websites such as booth. I think it would be a good idea to add a feature to be able to open a webpage to the site they direct to. Maybe add it to the camera some how.

I hope this gains traction again soon. I've seen a plethora of QR codes as of recent. For now, I'll have to use other avatar methods.

I think adding Qrcode/barcode reading to the camera would be a very useful feature.
Even if it is merely a way to copy the data to clipboard, it would be a lot more convenient for the users and content creators.

I don't see this happening while at the same time we're prevented from constructing VRCUrl objects programmatically. If anything, this would be a worse security risk, especially with Image Loading where the source can swap out the image at any time, without requiring an avatar or world re-upload -- so much weaker on the accountability side of things.

Flir: That's why "Allow Untrusted URLs" exists as an option to enable.

Been awhile since this was marked as Tracked. Any updates or plans to make this a feature soon?

IOS style QR readers would be awesome

I want this feature too.
I think, not only website URL, but also various string readable feature is helpful for many world creators.
Some riskiness for malicious URL was said below, but I think, behaviors after reading code should be displaying keyboard which read string is copyable, not opening browser directly, this method is more safer.

Bumping this, as of late 2022 many many many worlds and VRChat expos use QR Codes for various things. I would love for the camera to detect and let you select QR codes, iOS camera app style.

As long as the VRC does not complete the economy within the VRC but delegates it to external parties, we need to rely on external websites and we have to accept a certain amount of risk.
When a QR code is read by a camera like a smart phone, the URL should be displayed and the user should be able to choose whether to open that web page or not.
Sonicgott
Maybe add it as a function to the camera, and give insight as to potentially hazardous links.
Julian Astrum
bad idea and would instantly be abused to try to steal people's vrchat login info.
CrookedToe
Julian Astrum: that could be said about literally all hyperlinks online
ForeverAndaDay
Julian Astrum: Add a link filter like the one on steam?
Wigma
ForeverAndaDay: that would be a good idea, so it lets u people know that whatever they r going may be a risk.

Julian Astrum: as long as they stick with the current setup where URL are loaded in default browser on the PC or Quest it should be fine with the current browser security of 2023.
CORS and certain web pages refusing to work while in an iframe.
I do like the warning page that steam does. Open up a page that is a very minimal notice, no frills. No flair.
DAG-XR
ForeverAndaDay: Hot take, but 'Allow Untrusted URLs' should already be that filter.
