Orange Status Whitelist
Chdata
Orange status was a step in the right direction, but it needs work.
Whether you're an extrovert or introvert, there is a social cycle I think everyone is bound to go through:
- Wanting to make more friends
- Making more friends
- Having more "friends" than you realized you can deal with
- Sticking with one small niche group you've grown attached to
- Permanent orange status
In addition to hud fixes like friend list sorting & filtering, or being able to tell if a person in orange status is in an actually potentially joinable type of instance, and notifications appearing in your menu instead of hud while on red...
Let us have a list of friends who can join on you even if you're in orange status. They see you as green and everyone else sees you as red or orange.
That's the general concept, but the implementation could be different.
Give us options for specific "friend categories" and make more friend categories than just 3, those categories could have settings that apply to all friends in that category. Like with Steam's friend tagging. I have other cannies for better friend list management.
An improvement like this would also open the door to having a toggle-able "join request sound" like a discord ping, that you could turn on/off per friend-category.
With 1500+ "acquaintances" on my list and me only having the social energy to be around 5 of my close friends, I can at least say there's room for improvement.

It's easy to abuse orange status and become antisocial
People say they stay in orange status for "safety" but its easy to lock your new friends off and pretend "if they want to join, just ask" and then pretend "I dont know them enough, i'm going to pretend i didnt see that"

SplitScream: Some of us are actually anti-social or asocial or semi-social and I think that should be respected too.
It's not as simple as us ignoring people - as a semi-social person myself, I just don't have the social energy to be open and accepting of a thousand people at all times.
I think any type of person who ends up friending en masse will have that problem (streamers, community owners, etc), but even anti-social people with few friends will get socially drained.
My fix here basically allows reclusive people like myself to more easily gate off the majority of our acquaintances while being more open to the select few we want to be open with.
As for the people who end up gated off, they can more easily filter us out of their list and find the friends more currently open at the time instead of having to manually filter through potentially hundreds of people on orange or busy or private worlds.
At some point reclusive people do come out of their shells. In the mean time, find other people who are more open.

I'll agree there there should be more tabs in the Social menu. Keep the "All Friends" tab, like default, but add four more categories below, based on "Join Me", "Online", "Ask Me", and "Do Not Disturb" features, and then favorited friends right below it.

Yes, the "Ask Me" status is a pretty big problem in my eyes. This would greatly improve it.
