Just to be clear up front: this is NOT requesting to grab a
single
handful of
successively descending
children (like multiple links of a long tail). That might be neat but is a different issue.
This issue is about trying to cut down on physbone components by using the same component for BOTH halves of a symmetrical pair of physbones (i.e ears), which works great, EXCEPT that someone trying to grab both ears SIMULTANEOUSLY in both hands won't be able to.
This is discussed here: https://www.reddit.com/r/VRchat/comments/z2yfqh/a_tip_for_optimizing_physbones/ The good news is the main post (how a root bone containing both symmetric bones can save on components) and the bad news is in the first reply (how doing so will prevent both-hand grabbing).
This is the only shortcoming with an approach that's otherwise perfect for cutting down on physbone component count on Quest. And it seems like it might simply be an oversight, rather than some kind of optimization, since after all, physics ARE still running for all of the physbones involved, and both of the user's hands CAN still grab
other
physbones simultaneously, so I don't think adding this capability would come at any kind of meaningful performance cost? (I almost filed this as a bug rather than a feature request, in fact...)
