In-Game Messaging, Text and Voice
Grim Shadow
I know there are already multiple suggestions for this, but I still wish to see an in-game message system, one that uses text, voice, and/or video. Basically, I wish to see an in game discord. I know the last one sounds complicated, but I think it would be cool. I also wish for this to be cross-world if possible. That way, you could open the chat menu, click on a friend's name (I think this should be friend only chat, so as to prevent spam of course) and type out a text message, maybe make a voice recording, ring 'em up for a voice chat, and maybe make a video call, where they can see a headshot of your model with your local background (for example skyboxes in The Box), and you could talk that way. Having in game group chats would be cool too. I think this would benefit VR Users more than desktop, as desktop users can actually use discord for example, but as far as I am aware, VR Users cannot. Another reason I would like to have this messaging system is in case you wanna talk to someone who's in a private world real quick without interrupting something in that world or dragging them to yours. While video is definitely more complicated, and I would be satisfied without it, I wish for all three of these to be added to VR Chat so that users can more easily converse and talk in entirely different worlds.

Would love to see an Asynchronous Messaging System be added. Since I’m not trying to pull out my VR headset to ask a friend for there discord info at like 10/11PM. The Development Team definitely needs to work on something like this. They just have been holding back our words, even though they say to make a feedback request, they just don’t actually take it into account.

There are so many reasons why this needs to happen, and clearly its been vocalized for a long while now. VRChat devs really need to come to the senses and impliment this SIMPLE feature. Please, it will make your game a whole lot better, and you have the resources and capabilities to do so. Please just take the time and make your game 'that' much better. <3

I don't even care about the voice part, but I would like messaging. Mainly because sometimes people just wanna show up 'just to check in', when really they just mean say hi and leave. Which can be annoying.
Also, it can be useful for if you just need to contact someone real quick to tell them something. Not everyone has everyone's Discord so sometimes the only way is join them. Which is not always an appropriate time to do. So messages would be very useful.
Offline ones could also help if you need to say something but someone already logged off. Which it could be important. Like changes in plans.
I've been wanting this feature for awhile.
However I'd also honestly like a 'Creator Inbox' kinda thing where someone can leave a note on a world for the creator that can only be read by them. That way they can let them know if anything is wrong. Like it's causing lag, crashes, there's a bug, ect. I feel like these things could be helpful for useful communication between users.

It's insane they haven't added an IM system after so long, it would be awesome to not have to open to Discord whenever i wanted to message someone in a different world.

akaiomoi yeah and even for the friends you made in vrc that you haven't addedc to discord yet, or don't plan too. Having and in game IM system is so needed. It keeps the social ecosystem, WITHIN the game, which is important! FRFR

Some form of text messaging needs to be implemented, the fact that it hasn't after 10(?) years blows my mind to be honest. it doesn't need to be complicated, convoluted or overly feature dense, Just a simple in-game messaging or Mailing system that lets friends exchange actual messages to each other, because peppering friends with 'invites' and changing the message feels rude and obnoxious.

Why have they not done this for the site yet

It would be awesome if we got a new item like the camera, a phone. But a simple way to send messages would be the best probably.

Instead of keeping merging the already 100th same idea, because people REALLY in need of it, and saying to us: "ve vil not ad tis to de gaim bikous it dozent fit de contsept.", start working on it. And stop adding stuff no one cares about.

I know some people would just say "Just use discord then" but they dont realize that on average most people on your in-game friends list are not on your discord friends list or in any of servers you may be in.

I came here to post more or this exact request.
I realize plenty of people just use Discord anyway; for those of us that don't, this would be an incredibly nice QoL feature.
I don't want any fancy bells or whistles, though. Don't need voice messages or video messages or anything that seems like it would be a hassle to implement / moderate - just a simple text messaging system that works like the invite system except it only sends messages without the invite.
Sometimes you just want to talk to someone or ask if someone's okay when they physically want/need to be alone. The invite system is better than nothing in those moments but the nature of it as an invite is completely inappropriate and pollutes the sentiment (IMHO).
