In-game event calendar

Having an calendar in-game would let people who are not on slack actually know what kinds of stuff is happening! (And it looks/is better imho)
There would be a calendar button on the menu and clicking it would bring up a window similar to WoW's calendar
Users would be able to select a date, create an event and other people could sign up for it.
The creator would be able to set a starting time for the event and choose a world which it would be at.
Since this is a global community I think it would be best to use UTC time to coordinate everyone, and if possible, setting your own time-zone in settings and having VRchat convert the times to your local time.
Before the event starts a notification would appear (As shown in picture) so you can hang out with friends and not forget the time. An option to auto-join the event world 5-15-30 minutes before would be handy too!

this is a great idea, i would add:
1) group events that are automatically added to the calendar to all members of the group of course with the option to opt out of those notifications.
2) public group events that can be signed up for through the groups page
3) friends only events that are created by sending a request to the selected friends for them to accept and add it to their calendar.
4) creating events and reminders just for myself
5) Events set by VRCchat for officially supported and promoted events like VKET, new years eve, etc.
6) a discovery page for public group events to sign up for them like SHELTER for example without the need of being a member of said group

In 2024, this would probably be done via groups, although having invite-based events for friends would be cool too (i.e. the "date with Rom" example). For groups especially, having a new instance pre-configured and launched either at the event start or some time before-hand would be great too.
Maybe make binding the event to an instance or world optional, so larger events can be coordinated. This system could then work simply for RSVP and, after accepting it, notifications.

Ive been wishing for this for a long time. We never had abuse in Altspace, and events in menu were amazing. Ive been asking devs to do this every chance I get. Nobody can find our events. Please implement this. It would make VRChat so much more useful.

LightyearAltspc: i fully agree. An event system is sorely missing from VRChat. With the hundreds or even thousands of unique features it already has over its competitors, it is hard to believe it is missing this basic component

Events have been discussed quite a bit (I'm sure) AltSpaceVR had them and generally things worked but it could have been better and there is a lot involved in setting up such a system. Like everything in social apps it is open to so much abuse that it could be rendered useless. Thousands of "events" could be created, bogus events, events nobody shows up for, etc. would just make a mess.
I'd caution against providing too much initial detail in the design. I don't see (for instance) how one could auto-join an event 15 minutes before the person who is hosting it, creates it. If 200 people sign up for the event what happens if the world can't handle the load?
I don't know the solution but it involves more than just wishing for a feature.

Tom Leylan: im sure there is a solution like paying for or requesting larger bandwidth for a world where event takes place. Thats how Altspace handled it other than paying for it.

This would be amazing for Groups!

This is actually something I've been trying to test via an OVRToolkit, there's an event system that works with VRChat. And I've seen people be "interested" in the events I've posted, but haven't had any actually attend as a result. And this most recent one I posted, I gave some incentive via steam gift cards to try to entice people, see how many would actually respond. However, a variety of factors may have played a part in why no one actually came to me. I think mostly because I tried at 1pm PST and went to 3pm, and I'm guessing most of the PC player base that would use OVRToolkit was not online at that point in time on a Monday. Regardless, I did get people interested in the event and I think a native event system would be very much appreciated by many event organizers within the VRChat community space.

Tupper - VRChat Head of Community I guess they aren't really "interested" in it.

Eliх We absolutely still are interested in it! Development is a game of priorities, though.
