owlboy: bro I think you might've forgotten about how uh... this game is riddled with extremely poor performance user creations everywhere. Gif playback on panels would have minimal drawback in comparison.

What they should do is let you set png icons for free, and with plus you can set gifs.

Kinami: though I'm fairly sure unity doesn't support gifs. so it would need to be a texture sheet with a shader to animate it.
