Persona is in fact, linked to Palantir.
This is the same controversy discord is having currently with it's verification.
Persona is currently in several disputes regarding maintaining user data longer than it's privacy clause dictates due to said involvement with palantir.
Palantir is pushing for a surveillance state that puts minority groups at risk.
Palantir Is not something VRC should want to be associated with.

This is a genuine privacy risk. I've been listening in on Persona for a while now, and the general consensus is that Persona is not to be trusted with your biometric data.

Age verification in general is a gamble and a bad idea; you really don't know what the company does with your information. At the end of the day, I wouldn't give your biometric data away, but that is your choice if you wanna risk that.

Discord issued a press release about how they are no longer working with Persona.
I hope VRChat staff reads the whole thing and understand that this is the type of thing we hope VRChat can also consider.

So I think many many folks have brought up good points about the morality of using Persona, its links, its data breaches, etc. I (maybe blindly) believe that VRChat is not receiving any of that personal data Persona may be holding but I do agree that continuing to use Persona is wrong morally....my argument here though won't be about that though but purely financially
There is a hope to continue the push for using 18+ instances for groups and services that participate in NSFW activities, especially your known biggest event each year in Furallity. I have already seen several individuals refuse to now Verify (aka buy a month of premium TOOO verify) because of the recent news, and I a sure I am not the only one that has witnessed that.
I totally understand the requirements you face with different nations and states pushing the ID verification, which is why we are not asking for removal. Switching providers though does show you will not stand with those ties that have been shown with Persona though the leaks, and on the flip side continuing to support them may in the long run implicate you as a participant of similar practices regardless of the validity of it.
I do not know what the contract looks like or if there is some break clause, but even a public message of "hey we are looking for a new provider for when our contract runs up" I think would go a long way in dissuading worries and such brewing in your userbase due to the worrying things that have sprouted from this 3rd party provider.

WubTheCaptain the fact that it is you who is sharing this, given your other comments here, and you with the only comment on that post as of this hour, is suspect to say the least. The inability of Thiel and his cadre of fash pedos to easily trace each of our IDs to particular accounts is immaterial. They know we are on VRChat, and that the VRChat is more queer and neurodivergent than the general population. That, along with the other data they siphon off elsewhere, is enough to be dangerous. PatrickQuin The current drama over Discord's mandatory age verification is driving everyone up the wall. Misinformation and conspiracy theories are running rampant right now, and everyone is afraid of the worst case scenarios.
Not because I want to increase your paranoia, but if all you are worried about is someone knowing that you play VRChat, then there are other ways that can be found out. For example does your bank tell others that you might have given VRChat or VRChat-related businesses money (VRC+, Booth, Gumroad, etc.)? Google's AI overview seems to think so, but I am no expert. I just want to point out that if you are worried about something as basic as people knowing you play VRChat, then they likely already have ways to find out.
Once all the misinformation has died down, I am certain that VRChat will check if they need to change provider. They even said so themselves, that they are watching what is happening in the news with all this.
Until then, if you are worried, just don't get age verified in VRChat. If you are already age verified in VRChat, then you can feel safe knowing that VRChat has already done everything in their power to help you keep your privacy, as detailed in their FAQ.

Fizzy Fresh Your statement seems to be false or misleading. No personal data was leaked from Persona, only a 53 MB source code leak, per your linked article.
Your claims of traceability seem to be misplaced and have nothing to do with how VRChat's age verification works (see tupper on reddit and strasz on VRChat Ask). Persona also doesn't receive information from VRChat about who you are on VRChat from the age verification process.
