DX12 Support

DX12 support will allow for a lot fewer CPU bound issues. DX12 offers lower overhead, more direct control over the GPU, and lower CPU usage.
Unity 5.6 has DX12 support natively.

As the person who opened this post, I'm also going to close it for much the same reasons as the Vulkan post.

Tupper - VRChat Head of Community: DX12 is now 5 years old. Can we expect to move on at some point or will VRChat keep being stuck until a similar app comes around with way better performance?
Why not use the upcoming UI refresh to announce a new VRChat 2021 for example, with big performance improvements. I'm sure people would gladly reupload their content for the new update.

Digging this post up again, as it is still relevant, but not being looked at anymore it seems. Is this still on the list for a maybe or is it going to be a no?

any progress on this? personally performance is the biggest catch in vrchat as it reduces the amount of people that can be together and enjoy an event.

DX12 pogchamp ? maybe newer 10' and 11' series of nvidia GPU's will gain a benefit from this.

I wouldn't want to change operating systems "just" for vrchat/directx12.
Just putting that out there.

MotoFckr9k: Ideally DX11 support would be maintained, but that's potentially extra work for both the VRC devs, and content creators.
At some point, someone will have to push the "this OS isn't compatible anymore" button. :(

tupper: Funnily I have become unable to use anything other than Windows 10 or Linux since i upgraded my system to a so recent chipset that even Windows 8.1 does not run.

I'd up-vote this twice if I could.

gg67: Honestly, if we had a choice... I think Vulkan would be a better choice for cross-platform compatibility, but I wanted to put DX12 as a suggestion as well. I think DX12 is probably going to be easier, though.

So much yes to this

Potentially another easy win! Assuming it doesn't result in any random bugs. Will work with the team to find a place to fit this into our release schedule.

gg67: But please take a look at Vulkan as well.

gg67: Vulkan would be greatly appreciated! Especially for those of us on older operating systems and Linux (VK would make it easy to port to LX) :3

Tenshinen: Yeah going with Vulkan would be the best option though I can imagine how much new bugs that might introduce that they would have to work through. Vulkan allows for Linux later, this is why getting more games on Vulkan even without Linux is super important for now.
