"Busy" status could require an invite request to join on friend

I want to be able to set my status to "busy" or "antisocial rn" and disallow friends joining on me in public, friends, and friends+ worlds.
Could help with those awkward situations that don't need a permanent solution like removing or blocking someone. And when you dont want to be in a private world.

Totally agree but unfortunately your idea won't work as well as this one: https://vrchat.canny.io/feature-requests/p/add-a-stealth-mode-to-allow-people-to-appear-offline People can easily bypass by joining the instance directly (instead of the player), so appearing offline/invisible would be ideal.
I've wanted this for years too but it looks like the VRC staff is ignoring/avoiding anything to do with user privacy, despite the very positive user response. :( If a competitor game comes along with this and other similar features, so long VRC, survival of the fittest: either listen to your fans or step down.

What behavior would this take on if the friend is in a publicly joinable instance? Or if I have another friend in the same instance as the first that I can join off of?
If you want to be antisocial, why are you in an instance that others can freely join? The solution to your problem already exists in the form of private worlds.

dj3520: Since you can't soft-kick people by setting a status, this would prevent other users from joining you directly, although they could easily bypass it (see above).
Because empty echo chambers are such a fun place to meet new people. /s

Spambob Jimmy: If other people can join why not make it so your friends can't join off of you but they can still find the instance manually and join that way since it's a publicly joinable instance in the first place?

dj3520: That's essentially what this thread proposes. It's better than what we have, but still not ideal since it doesn't really prevent anything; all the person has to do is find the instance you're in which is easy. Why doesn't VRchat have an offline/invisible status like every other social platform? Who knows, but you can see they've avoided directly addressing it for years now if you look at this thread. https://vrchat.canny.io/feature-requests/p/add-a-stealth-mode-to-allow-people-to-appear-offline

Spambob Jimmy: You've misunderstood. I'm saying the solution already exists. It's called a private world. Otherwise there's going to be a way to join into the world regardless of your status setting. Because it's meant to be joinable. If you don't want people joining, don't go somewhere they can. It's that easy.

dj3520: Sorry for the late reply! Offline statuses would logically prevent all joins unless the person happens to get lucky and join your same instance.
Let me put it like this. Now and again I want to go meet some new people without having a bunch of my existing friends want to pile in on the room and expect me to pay attention to them. The way VRchat is set up right now is like having a phone with no way to mute or turn off the ringer. Imagine trying to carry a serious conversation with someone while your friends are calling you every 5 minutes, and having to tell each one that you'll call them back later. An offline status is the same thing; it's a feature existing on practically every social platform and it's very important.

Spambob Jimmy: Setting your status to Busy automatically turns down any invites or invite requests, so the phone ringer comparison is solved there. It sounds more like you're annoyed that you can't walk around in public without your friends seeing you. Issue is, it's a public world. If they join on you with a busy status, I think it's more of an issue of them wanting to see you regardless. To fix your comparison: It's like walking outside your house and a friend of yours sees you and runs over. I believe your issue is pretty niche at this point.

Extremely handy, especially when things get unwholesome and you have a younger audience following. I approve.

I would like an "offline" mode just like on every other platform for when I'm busy testing stuff and need to focus. Steam, Discord, Skype, Facebook and pretty much any platform has it. Why isn't this a thing already in VRChat? Also I had made another Canny just like this about a year or so ago and it never got any attention so I really hope a mod who is more familiar with Canny can merge that post!! I have no idea how to find it!

rollthered: theres two posts like this. Found out after i posted it. Hopefully it gets seen.

Anything remotely similar to this is needed, stealth/offline/busy, Anything along those lines. It's a social platform must-have.

I think if your with friends and one of them make a friends only lobby then only their friends can join. This might work temporarily for you.
