Anti-Epilepsy Option
closed
An option for people with epilepsy would be nice, like a way to tone down bright colors? Not sure if thats possible, or if there are better ways. But we had the rainbow squad raid the pug earlier and one of our friends there has epilepsy.
After we got the bulk to stop,
late Rainbow squad arrivals kept making it worse too.
Would be nice if there'd be a solution for that.

Suggestion since people with epilepsy play the game:
- Epilepsy warning for desktop users (didnt see any warnings yet).
- A setting for people to damp the flashing lights of shaders or (client side) replacing them in an instant with toon shaders.
I've seen a video recently which literally broke my heart when I saw someone having a seizure in VRChat. This just shouldnt happen...
I know, CatSix has made a post, but I just wanted to do this so people realize that we should do something about it since the community keeps growing in masses from day to day.

Use the Safety system that is in VRChat. Block Shaders and Light/Particle effects
Morag
NeptuneRP G: it does not work for them
NeptuneRP G
Morag: then turn off everything. If it doesnt work then its the avatar itself. Unless its a world issue, but i only have experience in avatar lightings, not world lighting. Sorry if it doesnt help much

"Dim Mode" For people with epilepsy
rollthered
Add a feature in which you can adjust the brightness of the game, much like a gamma tab in most desktop games where the user can fix the brightness of the hmd or screen via the system menu. This is great even for people who aren't epileptic and have eye strain. I myself have a mutation in my left eye and it gets really bright at times.

if you have Epilepsy you whold not be playing this game. people have great avatars and to stop them from using the shaders they use would be like sending off to jail form something that is not thier problem but i can say for worlds if thier flashie maybe they can put a warning on it other then that avatrs are free to go we can maybe have a epilepsy free hub maybe?

₥₳J₳․₴Ø₥₥ɆR: I know 2 people who have epilepsy and they play VRChat. This is why I said this should be a LOCAL setting which means that only the person with the setting on get this effect.

Wouldnt VR be risky for epilepsy in general?
PK
People who suffer from epilepsy I believe are a very small minority, and making vrchat safe for them would take a lot of work from the staff and the community, what seems plausible though is for someone to create their own hub linked to rooms that are fun and safe.

Lewin
PK: This seems more viable with the new moderation tools, Possibly world based avatar white-list, That could also be good for themed worlds
PK
Lewin: if vrchat had a tagging system for rooms, which is needed regardless, then there could be certain ones that needed mod certification before they were accepted, and then users could filter for these specifically.
L
Lewin
PK: Since worlds are already required to be approved i can imagine a tag could be grated during approval for safe worlds.
A system where one uses a limited world SDK could also tag automatically, but i can't image an automated system would get anything but abused, possibly community reviewers?
PK
Lewin: what i'd like is to have trusted user status that allows uploads without first having it checked, although with this tagging system certain ones would always need to be looked at and officially approved, for safety. but this goes to a larger issue of filtering content in vrchat. i'm sure they're working on something but right now it's hard to find great older content without remember the name or uploader. discovery is very difficult. we need tags, and ratings, and the ability to search one or a combination of keywords. although it might be best to limit people to just a few tags or it could get messy.
Whisper
Unfortunently for people suffering from epilepsy this is not the best game to play. Any game that fully allows users to upload models and worlds with little to no filtering is not a good game to play. I understand that it can be frustrating but you have to understand its almost imppssible for them to moniter or police that
Jawzhar
Whisper: while I agree policing or monitoring the people who do may be near impossible the concept is to create a button where the user can turn off particle effects and or turn on a mode that makes everything a static color more or less. So that epilepsy people can play without the fear of running into such problems. This would of course be a local setting that would not hinder the play experience of anyone else involved.

Whisper: the fact that there is no regulation is untrue
There is a dedicated team for authenticating and verifying worlds

There is sadly very little that can be done when it comes to user generated content here. - I think.
Kalista Phoenix
owlboy: it's not the user generated content, it's a matter of how VRchat handles video lag on Vive compared to Oculus, Oculus having horrible jittering, while Vive just simply has lower frame rates. This stuttering does not occur in most other games on the oculus
owlboy
Kalista Phoenix: This Canny is not about that, you brought that in. I did not respond to you, I responded to the Canny item.
