Add Total Animator Layers to Avatar Performance Stats
~EmberVR~
Currently, it is possible to create an empty animator with 1000+ blank layers to cause lag with an Excellent ranked avatar.
This can be used in a number of malicious ways to crash/lag people.
For example, this is a default cube with a blank animator with 1000+ blank layers giving me ~40 fps on desktop.

Bumping this in 2026. With server side processing I really wish this was a feature.

Currently layer count is MASSIVELY inflated in some editor tools (I have 10 layers but it reports 40), so this should probably not count those 20-30 layers that the VRC standard locomotion controller and other standard base parts add (somehow). Setting the threshold too low risks diluting the utility of the ranking system as a meaningful filter by casting too broad of a net (we’ve seen this before, and ratings
still
show in game as worse than they actually are at build). This warrants research and should absolutely be set completely differently for different platforms obviously.frou01
I strongly request this from a different perspective.
The number of animator layers seems to be currently the major factor in degrading performance in VRChat.

As an update to this: the current security checks that are done against avatars don't really allow this kind of avatar to be made anymore. This metric should probably still be added, but it's definitely less of an issue now

~EmberVR~ You're correct! It shouldn't be possible to create an avatar with 1000 blank layers anymore.
