I would like to request several accessibility-focused improvements to VRChat’s keyboard and input UI. These changes are aimed at disabled users, users with shaky hands or limited precision, and users who type while lying down. The current two-UI workflow and button placement create unnecessary difficulty, accidental input loss, and repeated micro-management. I am requesting an option to unify the input field and keyboard, safer placement for Copy/Paste, preservation of typed text when the UI closes, and reduced/removed keyboard appearance animation.
Detailed Requests
  1. Option to merge the Input Field and Keyboard into one UI
Please add an option that combines the text input field and the on-screen keyboard into a single UI, similar to how the old UI worked.
When lying down, managing two separate UIs is difficult for disabled users. Switching between them can cause random unlocking, and even with the lock function it requires constant micro-management.
A single, larger UI option would be much easier for disabled users to manage and would reduce accidental interactions.
  1. Move Copy and Paste buttons away from the space bar
The Copy and Paste buttons are currently too close to the space bar and are easy to hit accidentally.
Please move them to the top of the keyboard, one on each side:
Copy: top-left corner, above the number row.
Paste: top-right corner, above the number row.
This would reduce accidental presses, especially for disabled users with shaky hands or difficulty aiming precisely.
  1. Preserve the last typed text when the menu closes
When clicking off the textbox, especially while trying to press Enter, which is too close to the edge of the box, the entire UI can disappear and the typed sentence is lost.
There should be padding around the keyboard/textbox to prevent this, but if padding is not added, please save the last typed text so it can be restored when the UI is reopened.
Disabled users with shaky hands frequently click off the UI by accident, forcing them to retype entire sentences. This has happened to me multiple times.
  1. Remove the keyboard appearance animation or replace it with a fade-in
The current slide-up/fade animation adds unnecessary delay every time the keyboard menu is opened.
If a user habitually closes the menu after typing a sentence, they must wait for the animation each time before starting a new sentence.
Typing is an on-demand action and does not need decorative animation. Please remove the animation or replace it with a simple quick fade-in.
Accessibility Impact
These changes would significantly improve usability for disabled users and anyone typing in non-standard positions, such as lying down. They would reduce accidental input loss, lower the physical precision required to use the keyboard, and make text entry faster and less frustrating.
