18+ gated Worlds and Avatars with verified-only visibilty for the Adult Communities
Kitsunaki
Currently we have the choice between Public or Private worlds and avatars. Everything that is private is hidden and inaccessible.
- As an artist, noone would find your private content if you have no direct link.
- Private avatars can't be used from other players. Of course it makes sense that you can't access other people's avatars, that were meant to represent JUST them. But commissioned avatars can't be NSFW, otherwise it would be against TOS, if they'd just be uploaded publicly by the artist.
- With millions of avatars the mod team can't go through every single one and I sometimes ran into clearly public NSFW uploads in avatar search worlds.
- Private worlds can't be saved to favorites without programs like VRCX, making them even harder to find.
- But also some creators are giving access to kinky private worlds via link and everyone can get into that world via said link. So even non-verified people would roam around NSFW worlds, but noone would even notice.
But why not using the exising 18+ verified badge for worlds and avatars similiar to how it is already used for accessing instances? I already see request-only groups in which you're not accepted, if not age-verified. And instances being age gated to allow kinky communities to not be hidden in private and to be legal. I recommend a similar step for Worlds and Avatars.
+ All the points above would not be a problem, if we would have a third category for both avatars and worlds -> [18+].
+ Every not verified person could not wear such an avatar.
+ Every not verified person would see such an avatar as a robot, not showing them.
+ Every not verified person could not join any instance to such a world, even when having the link from chats they shouldn't roam in.
+ 18+ Worlds and Avatars could even be invisible and not listed for not verified people.
+ Artists would not have to hide their content anymore, never to be seen from anyone.
+ Noone have to deal with very unhandy downsides anymore, like being unable to favorite private worlds or can't upload NSFW avatars publicly for friends or customers.
It would give a safespace for not just the many kinky bubbles out there, but also for the masses of vanilla NSFW people, who're searching for communities, that're not nearly invisible. I think age verification will spread much more with such an update.
> Why even bother?
Recently I received many messages of friends who uploaded teasy worlds or ran teasy groups and meetups. VRC is not just used by minors. Those friends were temp-banned and their groups and worlds deleted. Sometimes content that was uploaded for 5 years to the public and people had nice memories there. Worlds with 100s of thousands of visits and thousands of favorite entries. The need for such worlds and groups is obvious.
It also often isn't obvious why. Those groups or worlds had no naked characters in them, but instead kink groups and worlds with suggestive content, that they were into. People in my bubbles starting to be confused about what's okay and what not anymore. Especially because there is no warning, no 'set to private until review', just deletion and temp-ban. And the explanation mail always just states 'against our guidelines.' Yeah which of those exactly and what detail in that world was too much? People can't really learn from that, just repeating what they're always doing and running into the same problem again.
VRC mods being stricter to keep the public free of any lewd content? Okay, but then give us a red-light district at the harbor. If there was an 18+ option for worlds, every kink content creator automatically categorized their work there, to be safe but not longer hidden. So many users would have reason to breathe a sigh of relief, and your mod team would be way less in stress.
VRC itself stated "Let adults be adults." Yes, give us places that're gated by a bouncer checking your ID, not just tolerating hidden blackmarkets that're accessible through a hole close to the sewers.

FYI. Regarding the reversal of the ban imposed on a certain world, which was one of the sources of this situation, a message was posted from a Japanese account: https://x.com/VRChat_JP/status/2063283329865257349 (The text in the image: https://x.com/naqtn/status/2063366809689244035 )

Also remind you the acct was suspended 2 days before FWA for stickers I appealed it and it was released after 12 hours and 3 stickers were removed but as the group has been removed and there not responding to get it back for something I worked hard on for 3 years. Side Note there raked as a F on the Better Business Bureau and filed a complaint with them when your dealing with money transactions you better have staff to help fix issues or your held liable as a business and better have better support
PrideChaser
I experienced a similar issue. My account was suspended for 7 days, and after returning home from FWA on May 21, 2026, I discovered that both my account and my group had been penalized for alleged sexual activity violations, despite there being no such activity taking place.
Moderation Type: Temporary Suspension
Applied: May 21, 2026, 1:58 PM UTC
Expires: May 28, 2026, 2:58 PM UTC
Reason Provided:
"Your account was found to be in violation of our Adult Sexual Activity and Nudity guidelines. As a result, your account has been suspended for 1 week. Some of your content may have been removed."
Offending Content:
Group – PrideChaser Crew
My concern is not only the suspension itself, but the lack of transparency surrounding it. When I asked what specific content violated the guidelines, what evidence was used, and why the action was taken, I received only links to the Community Guidelines. Those links do not explain what content was flagged or what behavior led to the suspension.
After attempting to get answers for a week with little to no response, I waited for the suspension to expire. Upon returning, I found that my group had been removed entirely without any clear explanation. I currently have four support tickets that have remained unanswered for over a week.
As a VRChat Plus subscriber, I believe users deserve a clear explanation when accounts, groups, or content are moderated. If something violates policy, identify the specific content or action that caused the violation so users can understand what occurred and address it appropriately.
The current process is too vague and leaves users guessing whether the action was the result of a misunderstanding, an inaccurate report, targeted reporting, or an actual violation. Transparency, evidence, and timely communication should be standard when moderation actions significantly impact a user's account and community.

PrideChaserYeah I hear that problem over and over again: People don't understand what line was crossed, because action is taken without a deeper explanation than "cuz TOS" and if you write T&S team, they react with "cuz TOS, here is the link"

While we wait 3+ years for this to be implemented, I've been using the 'Sexually Suggestive' content tag on any world that is even remotely kinky intentional or not. That at least makes it less discoverable for bad actors and users who don't want to see it.
Kitsunaki
Ryker™ Good idea, but I read in an article of VRC that those tags are not really doing anything. Even though it might help to not show up for certain people, yee

I have been saying for a bit that we should be able to flag an uploaded world as 18+ so that only age verified users can join it. You probably will still need to not be explicit in name and thumbnail still, but having dedicated adult worlds would be amazing.
Kitsunaki
Dugan_Panther I read a poll from 7 years ago with that topic and it's still "tracking". Wow x_x But I summarized the current situation and gave some solutions. VRC, if you need more people to do all ya shit, I am a GameDev on jobhunt right now. Heck xD

I really doubt anything will come of this. My roommate, who used to be friends with VRC devs, has had his community hit multiple times by the mod team despite their worlds still falling in line with the rules.
If anything, it seems like the devs just have random hate spasms and suddenly target whatever fetish community hits their eye. Like how some furry websites had rules against Sonic characters, or suddenly didn't allow 3D SFM artwork despite allowing AI generated content.
Nobody hate furries worse than furries itself, it would seem.
DeadManParty
Interesting idea. But there's only one problem period in order for v r chat to be even playable in some countries, they have to have the terms of service be rather strict when it comes to content.
I'm not sure a world itself is allowed to be having n.S f w content, where else it gets taken down off the community labs.

While I agree with the idea of locking adult content behind an 18+ filter, the way it is handled in this proposition isn’t ideal. This seems to mirror what I saw with Chillout VR a couple years ago and it is flawed.
The ability to use adult avatars in a public world (even if it’s censored for anyone who hasn’t verified or hasn’t consented) is not a good one. Imagine this. You’ve verified and you’re using an adult avatar in a public lobby for some reason. A child runs up to you (who doesn’t see your avatar) and a third verified person sees this and takes a photo. Great. Now you’ve been photographed next to a minor with your junk out. Not a good look.
Instead, there should be a new type of instance: Adult Content. An Adult Content instance would be locked to those who have both verified and gave explicit consent to see adult content. Adult Content instances would be the ONLY place you could load any form of Adult Content such as worlds, avatars, or even potentially other UGC such as stickers or prints. Attempting to load or spawn this content in other worlds would flat out fail. This is the solution I believe they’d take if they plan to take one at all.

Kodufan Contents filtering per instance is a cool idea. If only the age verification vendor doesn’t need to know who you are exactly, though.

I agree with Kitsunaki’s proposal. If we want to be separated, we should be separated, but we shouldn’t be persecuted by unsympathetic outsiders once we are.
If we allow self-regulation based on vague, arbitrary, and unreasonable standards, it will set a precedent, and before we know it, everyone will end up unhappy.
Vore content was removed based on vague criteria.
Next, it might be macro content, or maybe the "Find Friends" world where people pet and hug each other will be taken down.
I was suddenly banned for three days because of my profile bio, but when I contacted support, the ban was lifted within an hour.
I appreciate the quick resolution, but if this happens to a world or group, the impact is much greater than on an individual user, and it leads to distrust in the admins.
