[1216] Add a small visual indicator when someone has their personal mirror out
tracked
Salbug
Whenever someone pulls out their personal mirror, just like the camera, have like some kind of visual indicator like a small square mirror with a border and a fake reflection on it (for performance reasons of course) Of course an option to have that be togglable on or off in the Personal Mirror settings as well.

Because we couldn't implement a solution, we have identified instances where there are real-world consequences in the game world.
Is it possible to introduce indicators to show whether something is displayed, or allow settings on a per-world basis similar to avatar scaling?

There hasn't been any update on Canny whatsoever. How is it currently doing?

We don't think exposing this as an indicator on the nameplate or in the world is ideal.
However, we
are
considering exposing its current state (Personal Mirror On, Off) as an Avatar Parameter so you can implement your own indicator if you'd like, similar to the Earmuffs parameter. This way, users can be creative and have their avatar show that their personal mirror is on as you choose. There's no ETA for implementation of this feature but it is tracked.

Tupper - VRChat Head of Community: I like that solution

Completely disagree here, I am using the personal mirror so that the person I'm talking to feels more engaged rather than us all facing a single mirror talking. There is no reason they need to know
Chdata
Nah. What are people gonna do, make annoying comments about it?

I fully agree.
But I think it should only be visible when you open the Quick menu.
And there should be an option to also see how big someones mirror is not just were it is.
It's consistent with the camera. Why can I see someones camera but not someones mirror.

Because this mirror is “personal,” we do not want others to know about it. I think that is actually true.
However, if that mirror shows something other than the local player, I don't think it is truly “personal”.
So, as others have said, how about arguing an indicator when a personal mirror shows something other than the local player?

Since this mirror is “personal,” I don't want others to know about it. I think that's certainly true.
However, if something other than a local player is shown in that mirror, I don't think it's truly “personal.”
So, as others have mentioned, how about displaying an indicator when someone other than the local player is displayed on the personal mirror?

Assuming both parties (Mirror user and remote user) to be able to opt out of this indicator, it'd be great.
My contribution: I think it would be cool if you'd be able to snap your mirror to the indicator, allowing multiple player's mirrors to act in sync.

I don't want other people to see that I'm using a personal mirror. It's a personal mirror.
Perhaps the best use for a personal mirror is to place it behind the person you're talking to so that you can see yourself while you face them. I expect that the advent of personal mirrors will eventually eliminate the effect of people congregating in front of world mirrors and looking at each other in the mirror rather than directly. Because it simply won't be necessary anymore. You can face the person or people you're talking to. The fact that I have a mirror out to help me control my avatar is not something they need to know about, and I don't want them to see or be distracted by it.
Also, there is a contingent on VRChat who hate on "mirror dwellers", and this seems like a method of letting them see who's using mirrors so they can continue hating on them.

Kindly disagree, I don't want other people to know if I have one out.
You mentioned a toggle but I'm not sure if you mean a toggle on your end so you can use the mirror without anyone knowing or on their end so they don't see the indicatiors. If it's the former that's fine IMO, but the latter would bother me, personally. I don't wanna hear stuff like "Why tf you looking at a mirror all the time".
