"VRChat is not responding" message randomly and disconnect
closed
Free hugs․․․
Randomly I get the "VRChat is not responding" and then either the world reloads or I'm left on a completely black screen.
Just a note that I could hear people speak and could see them move up to last moment, but for no apparent reason I'm told that VRChat is not responding.

This is happening to me now. It got progressively worse in december 2022 and on new years eve it became unplayable ever since. Im on quest 2, uninstalled, reinstalled, messed with settings, ping56 to 100. Even hard reset headset, still it occurs. No firewalls, just a tmobile home internet with speeds higher than 50mbps usually. Cant think of what couldve changed except there was an update in december I think, that and a server issues for west coast around new years day that supposedly got fixed.

I am also experiencing this issue on PCVR and Desktop modes. in which it results in me losing connection to the server and where I watch my friends point out I've crashed/timeout and I watch my friends continue their conversations or discuss my unfortunate issue until a minute or two later I get "VRChat is not responding" OR "Your connection to VRChat has timed out".
I have inspected my cables/switched to wifi, my internet packets and double checked my internet router and lines and this issue still happens.
I've played this game in this configuration for 2+ years without issues until the last 3weeks/to a month and now this week it has become unplayable to do any activities or have conversations within VRChat due to dropping out.
I have additionally reset my PC and done a fresh install of just VRChat to determine if any programs/background apps could cause this and within six minutes the issue reappeared.
I have spoken to other Australian players and friends who also have the same issue as I do but it happens less frequently to them to make a report but for me this makes it unplayable. I dropped out 3 times within five minutes yesterday and totaled 8 disconnects.
And I have timeout 5 times at the time of writing this today.

The issue is most likely packet drop. VRC has no way of handeling this.

Dauw_Jonas: what is packet drop and is there a way i can fix it?
Dauw_Jonas
SassyOrangeCat: I recommend googling it for the best explanation. But in short when computers (and servers) talk to each other compared to people talking, packets drop is when not all the words of the speaker arrive to the listeners.
There are many reasons why this can happen; bad cables, bad Wifi, Wifi interference, computer being to slow to handle all the incoming packets, …
The easiest way to deal with this is making software to deal with it. You will rarely see a packet drop issue on YouTube and on Twitch you see it as the stream buffering and Twitch suggestions to disable low latency mode so your computer and Twitch server have time to resend the packet befor it needs it to display to you.
You could attempt to fix it on your own side (I mean by that your home network). First thing to do is use ethernet cables. Second thing is more work and potentially more difficult, checking your cables. You will need tools for this and the better the more expensive they are. Google this for the right info. DIY ethernet testers are 10-20€ and you can also use 2 computers.
There is also a possibility that the issue is not on your side but your ISP (their network connects you and other houses to the internet). If this is the case your internet is most likely slow because if the ISP cared it wouldn’t. You can complain to them is that is the case, or maybe even ask help about this in general.

Been happening the last two weeks as described by the OP. I usually get a ping of 180 to US West but with this bug I will either connect with or after a disconnect get a ping of 250. Testing my ping outside of VRChat while this is happening results in a normal result. After another disconnect my ping resets back down. Seems to affect UK and Australian players that I'm aware of.

This is happening to me as well, so far it's either the VRchat is not responding and into the black screen or VRchat has timed out.
So far for UK users it's only happening to people on a single ISP (Virgin media), however this doesn't just effect UK users it's happening to people internationally at random on my friends list in the US, Europe and Australia

Keeps happening. Thing is that last time it was me and one more person at the same time. So it's not my broadband connection it's a wider VRChat server issue
