SteamLink default settings causing "Your connection was interrupted" error spam, No issue with Virtual Desktop
DrakenStark
- Use a Quest headset (tested with 2 and Pro)
- Setup SteamLink on the HMD.
- Install Steam, disable all firewalls, and uninstall all virus scanners on the PC.
- Setup router with OpenNAT, disabled firewall, and forward all ports. (Isolated network to specific PC and HMD during this process.)
- Utilize SteamLink to play VRChat.
- Witness anywhere from 10 seconds to 5 minutes of repeated "Your connection was interrupted" errors and immediately rejoin the instance without any other issue. Zero issues with other streaming apps and games.
- Setup Virtual Desktop on headset and PC
- Utilize Virtual Desktop and recognize the connection issue is gone.
- Search the VRChat Discord for Connection Interrupted and discover a long term association with this issue and SteamLink.

Monitored pings to my router to check for a correlation and there is indeed one that shows while using SteamLink. The red bars coincide with the timing of my Connection Interrupted errors. This is not an issue while using Virtual Desktop surprisingly. Given this evidence, it's possible this issue could be mitigated with QoL configured to limit the bandwidth used by SteamLink. Alternatively turning down the quality of the SteamLink stream to the headset might also alleviate this issue.
