Significant Audio Latency When Switching Instances
のむらす
Since version 2025.2.1, audio latency has become severe after switching instances, and the microphone indicator takes several seconds to light up.
This happens every time I switch instances and is temporarily resolved by reconnecting the PC and the HMD.
Environment:
PICO 4 connected via PICO Connect

It appears that this issue is caused by the microphone being toggled on and off when moving between instances. By checking Windows’ microphone activity, I confirmed that VRChat requests microphone access every time an instance transition occurs.
(Windows Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone > Recent Activity)
So far, this seems to be a PICO Connect–specific issue, and I suspect that some form of microphone initialization process is accumulating latency. Fortunately, I found that the problem can be avoided by keeping the microphone in a constant “in-use” state. For example, leaving the Windows Sound Settings window open, or keeping an application like OBS running (which continuously uses the microphone), prevents the delay. Alternatively, using Windows’ “Listen to this device” feature to continuously route the “PicoStreamingMicrophone” to any audio output device also works as a workaround.
If the microphone has already become delayed, the only way to recover — aside from reconnecting the PC and HMD — seems to be toggling PICO Connect’s noise-cancelling switch on and off a few times.
As a suggestion, would it be possible to prevent microphone re-initialization during instance transitions, or make VRChat’s microphone access request occur only once? Since this might affect a wide range of users, perhaps it could be added as a VRChat Launch Option.

After some research, I found that this issue did not occur with Virtual Desktop.
