Make Desktop User Pickup Ray Casting work in Situations Where it Works for VR Users
closed
owlboy
Currently, objects inside of boxes with open tops or other containers are very easy for VR users to pickup. They can even pick them up when their hand (the ray caster) is casting a ray through the collider that the container users.
Desktop users have trouble though. Their ray cast is blocked by the container collider.
This makes designing things frustrating and leads to either designing for VR users and making desktop users complain, or designing for desktop users and limiting the design choices.
If there is a design solution to this problem, maybe one involving using specific layers, please reply to this post with details!

Any news on re-merging the original fix? Or information on why reimplementing the previous fix is not possible?

The current state of things right now.
In addition, Stations do not work in the second example for VR Users (I have not tested Desktop+Station).

Like that rag at the great pug, only vr users can get it the first time.

Similar but separate issue:
(It has to do with UI elements, not pickups and interactable objects.)

I’ll note this also means that trigger volumes can get in the way of Ray casts for pickups too. (For desktop users)

This probably should have been marked as a bug.
