Hello! Thank you for providing details and information regarding this issue. We're still having trouble reproducing on our end, even with the same avatars and repro steps. Rest assured we are still actively looking into it and are going to attempt some fixes. If you have any new repro steps feel free add them to this post!

[Bug] Under certain conditions, the avatar's trail renderer rendering is broken.

If certain conditions are met, the avatar's trail renderer drawing will be broken.
The conditions are as follows.
- The trail renderer component is attached to any bone object below the avatar's Hips bone hierarchy. (This is not a problem if the component exists directly under or outside of the avatar's Armature, and the component follows the bones via Constraint).
- Trail is seen through a camera or mirror from the Local viewpoint. (If you are looking at it from the Remote viewpoint, the problem does not occur. Also, the problem does not occur if you are looking at the trail from the Local viewpoint but in first person.)
Addendum: I was told by a friend who has a Mobile VR device that the problem does not occur with Mobile VR even if the conditions are met. I have not directly confirmed this, but it is possible that the problem does not occur with Mobile VR.
The first photo is a screenshot of the screen in desktop mode; the second photo was taken in desktop mode using the standard VRChat camera. In both photos, the mirror is placed on the far side of the screen.

条件は以下の通りです。
- trail rendererのコンポーネントがアバターのHipsボーン階層以下の何れかのボーン・オブジェクトにアタッチされている。(アバターのArmature直下あるいはArmature外にコンポーネントが存在し、Constraintによってボーンに追従させる場合は問題は起こりません。)
- トレイルをLocal視点でカメラや鏡越しに見る。(Remote視点で見ている場合は問題が起こりません。またLocal視点であっても一人称で見ている場合も問題が起こりません。)
付記事項:Mobile VRでは条件を満たしていても問題が起こらないという話をMobile VR機器を持っているフレンドに聞きました。私が直接確認したわけではありませんが、Mobile VRでは問題が起こらない可能性があります。
写真1枚目はデスクトップモードにて画面のスクリーンショットを撮った写真。2枚目は同デスクトップモードにてVRChat標準カメラを用いて撮影した写真です。どちらも奥側にミラーが設置されています。

I confirmed that this problem also occurs in the open beta of version 2025.1.2, build 1582.

Thanks to everyone that's been providing additional info and evidence. While we've still been unable to reproduce this problem internally, we've recently made a change to how avatar mirroring is processed that we hope might solve this issue. This fix is expected to be included in the open beta for version 2025.1.2.
We'd be grateful if anyone that's been consistently suffering from this problem could please check it again in the next open beta once it becomes available to help us verify if this issue has been fixed. Thank you!

Trail Renderer is broken

The trail runs back and forth between the avatar's feet and the original location. This only happens locally and is rendered normally by other players.

I ran into the same issue! However it seems to be a PC only issue, as the trails work in mirrors and cameras just fine on quest standalone!!

Can confirm this has been an ongoing issue for me that has persisted since 2024.4.1p1, build 1534.
In testing, we found that only some people experience the issue, and it is always when viewing their own avatar in a mirror or camera, even if others are wearing the same avatar; i.e. the same avatar will behave differently on different systems, but it is only the user's own image of themselves that shows the issue.
This is a Steam overlay screenshot from early November. The issue persists today. This example uses a free Trail Renderer 'pen' asset.

I typically put claw renderers on my avatars. Which are the blue and red avatars in particular. The pink one is a retexture for my boyfriend. The siamese cat is a retexture for a commission. The mayus I haven't even updated in a while but to the best of my knowledge the trails were working just fine up until a recent update within the last month. Heck even the trail that comes with the khnfucat avatar base is having the same issues and I haven't done anything with it. And my graphics/particle settings don't seem to affect it at all. I'm sure it's been posted before, but with inadequate responses to pin down the error. Again local, everyone else sees the particles working normally. And so do I except when I see a mirror or when there's a camera. Which also means I can't record mmd videos with the claw trails on until I have a fix/workaround, or it gets fixed if it's vrchat side.
