At Groups -> 'specific group' -> Settings -> Roles -> Editing - Member -> Permissions

the logic of the descriptions is wrong. It says something like 'Allows role...', instead it should be something like 'Allows members with this role...'.

The role itself can't do anything by itself, it needs to be attached to a user and by giving the person the permissions they are allowed to do various things.
