Pride Month Hype Train Adjustments
WingmanDraws
I will preface this by saying that I am for this event in general! I do like the overall goal and purpose of the event! However, I do the think the Hype Train feature could use some adjustment. The current system (as of writing this) incentivizes poor behavior and greatly hinders people from actively donating to the charity or attempting to receive the item.
This is greatly due to a few factors:
1) The hype train itself being tied to the instance and allowing everyone within the instance to benefit from those who donate. This is a major issue as those who have no intention of donating or who would have gifted now possibly will not as they can just 'camp' an instance, effectively blocking one of the slots that could be used by someone who would have gifted. This effectively kills attempts at getting the hype train to 100 due to their inability/refusal to assist in the goal, all while attempting to get the item for themselves. Another side effect of this is people will open group instances for the hype trains, and the moment that the train ends (failed or succeeded), the group owners will close the instance forcing everyone else into other queues. Which, in themselves, are already massively blown out of proportion. These queues and "squatters" are leaving those who donate with few options when it comes to the event. It's heavily encouraged that once donating, you should leave the instance if you cannot donate further, so that you may potentially allow someone else who can donate into the instance and increase your odds for success.
2) The 5 minute timer is a massive hindrance to the whole idea of a charity focused event. It creates a sense of urgency, sure, but sadly the way it currently functions is simply not conductive to a good experience to the user. One major, if not the biggest, issue is the fact that multiple gifted VRC+ subs does not count the timer higher than 5 minutes, it simply resets it to 5 minutes regardless of when the bundle was dropped.. This has caused the player base to simply drop one sub at a time in an instance in order to "stretch" the timer as long as possible, which is rather difficult due to #1. This drastically lowers the incentives to drop more than 1 sub at a time for people just to keep the hype train alive.
3) The goal being 100 is rather strange to me as, along to the compound issues from #1 and 2 making the train difficult, trying to get or hoping that every single person in an 80+ instance donates a single sub, the goal still wouldn't be met! I can't imagine someone trying this in a smaller lobby or with friends.
All of these issue compound into a rather poor experience. I know of some people, including myself, who have felt "ripped off" when we enter these instances, drop multiple subs, only for the train to fail, effectively being forced to spend more money we may not have intended to do if we want the fan.
While I cannot offer a solution for every issue, here's the ideas I do have to offer:
- Reduce the goal from 100 to 80 or even 50 to match the instance cap and incentivize more people to drop in smaller instances rather than sitting in queues for the big ones, as well as those who have received the item already to leave and clear up room for others to come in.
- Remove or adjust the timer functionality. I suggest the former, but if the later is considered, I recommend allowing subs to add to the timer rather than resetting it. Compounding or scaling by how many are dropped at a time.
- Perhaps add a way to guarantee the item for yourself if you donate a set amount, just as the other items in the event work. Perhaps 10 subs total (double the pet/companion). This would give an option for those who are either unlucky or unable to contribute to the event.
I know my proposals aren't perfect, but these are my suggestions! I do hope this event goes well and we meet the community goal! Happy Pride and thank you for reading!

The event itself is lively and I think it's great, but from my perspective playing from Japan, I think most Japanese players are unaware of it, or even if they know, they don't care. It's sad.
The official VRChat Japan account, X, really doesn't do any work regarding these kinds of events. When I see them spouting stupid, idiotic stuff, I wonder, "Are they really official?"
Because of that, I think most Japanese people probably only see this event as an event where you can get a cute, rainbow-colored stick.
Also, a fairly large number of people have to throw 50 $10 items, and there's a time limit, so it's a little disappointing that the reward is just an item and a warp effect despite the large amount of money changing hands.
And the time limit! I'm not saying get rid of it, but couldn't they extend the time between throws a little? Around 15 minutes
Well, it's a charity event, so I don't think we should expect too much in return, but
I also think it's wrong that people who don't participate in the train and don't pay get to benefit. I think they should add a requirement that you send at least one VRC+ to receive the bonus after achieving the train's bonus. Honestly.
Otherwise, it'll just become a vicious cycle where people like the RATs in EFT gather and nobody sends anything.
Finally, this is just something I'd personally like to receive, but it would have been nice if you could get a bonus of one month's worth of VRC+ for every 5 VRC+ you send as gifts, or up to 5 months' worth. I think there should be something more to benefit you besides items.

It would be nice if they’d increase the chances of winning for people who joined the Hype Train…
My train is currently 100% stopped.

I would love a system where if you gift maybe you and the person gifted can get the fan? Seems harsh for us queens with no coin that we can't get a fan designed to celebrate us, but we're gated out of it.

Agree, the target '50(originally 100)' is really high(also not everyone prefer public, people who only play in private will NEVER get the fan, reduce the reason to help the goal.), it really should lasts for a while after the train finished so people can join and gift more(which is literally the goal, isn't it?*1), VRChat is not like the streaming platforms that you can get thousands in one place(even that fails sometime.). I planned to gift and also get the fan, but for too many hours ALL the instances I checked had DOZENS being AFK, in the end I didn't gift anything, I also saw few attempts failed in a 80 players instances, include official one. In the end people doing 24/7 AFK farming gets VRC+ and the fan, but the person doing real things gets nothing(which is very wrong.). I think no matter the goal the gifter should just get the fan, or maybe they get it when the goal reach 10 or something as to be staged. The system currently, to even complete one train requires actively find one good instance to gift and waste few hours each days, while seeing each instances have 75% of others just AFK farming VRC+ for profit. I don't think the situation is slightly healthy to the goal, the system really some changes.
(*1 The extend can be like 1 or more hours, or the extended train goal of 100, 200 or no limit to see how many it goes, also please don't add addition items on the goal since 50 is pain enough. Or just open a official instance with no 80/80 join limits(like the test instance))
By the way, judge from the context, I can also gift my friends which will not be in the instance(or while the friends being offline, it's not realistic to expect one to drag the friends of different online period go online, and queue the instance together right? sounds like a bad idea) and get the fan right?(also getting alone, since my friends will not be in the instance while I do the gift) Because that's what I planning to do, it's weird since I still have to join one instance that allowing me to also get the item otherwise I will feel like losing something while doing happy thing like charity, charity shouldn't be this hard isn't it?(edit:Can confirm gift to person not in the instance works, although the instance failed on 13/50 for me.)
And, one issue is the event is not translated. I have to explain how the train works and that's pretty new concepts since not everyone in Japan using Twitch. Literally saw people gifting in private and check if they got the fan item.
