[Feedback] Change Hand rotation on Index Controllers
complete
dolwup
Issue
Hands in VR are not properly aligned with your hands in real live when holding Index controllers.
They are slightly tilted inward when looking onto the front of your hand. If you let your arms hanging loose your handy will actually be tilted back a bit.
See pictures below for further clarification.
Suggestion
Tilt the VR hands slightly outward to better match how you hold your Index controllers in real life. This would make your hands feel better/more realistic in VR.

Kung: Hoping to see if we can do this too; perhaps move this thread to the IK forum. https://feedback.vrchat.com/open-beta/p/1260-feedback-please-allow-for-wrist-adjustment-on-the-y-axis

This is complete internally and scheduled to go in the next release. You'll have a slider in the main menu's Tracking and IK section to adjust wrist angle to fit however you tend to hold your controllers.

Kung: Hey Kung, thank you for your work and for this welcome feature! Really appreciate your work.
I need to ask you about something because you merged my old post as well as ALEKSIS-SENPAI's posts in here but we were asking about something different.
I saw the example video in the Dev Update and it looks great, but we don't really depend on the angle of the controller, we need to be able to offset by the Y and Z axes at the very least too.
Our hands just touch the the bottom of our controllers and are too far back on the Z axis, just that wrist rotation doesn't fix it.
At this point I've taken to just offsetting my hand bones in Blender, which is really janky and breaks the weights of animations slightly but it's still not as bad as having the hand 5cm too low.
I’ve asked all my friends if theirs are off too, and they all are off on the Y axis by at least a couple centimeters, some more and some less.
I really am begging you please give us sliders for these axes, please. :( I very much depend on it and it affects almost everybody.

schnabeltierr: You should have probably mentioned that you are talking about Vive Wands.

DrBlackRat: My friends all use Index and Quest 2 controllers and this affects everybody and the implementation is controller agnostic.
I also have mentioned that I'm using the Wands in my previous post which has been merged into this.

schnabeltierr: I'm using Index controllers and I also would love to be able to offset the position (and not just rotation) to how I hold my controllers, so I can make my avatar's hands line up perfectly with IRL.
Since people (and avatars) have different sized hands being able to change this offset as well would be great for immersion.
It also helps a lot with for example sign language when everything lines up.
ALEKSIS-SENPAI
schnabeltierr: I agree, would be great to adjust the position too since when you change the angle on index you need to lower the controllers too

Kung: Ooooh, I hope that release is real soon. 👀

schnabeltierr: I merged your previous post because it was mainly focused on your hand being "off" and listed both position and angle. And this Canny broadly seeks to resolve the hand being "off" without unneeded menu bloat (for example you could have 6 total sliders per hand for a total of 12 for absolute full control, but that's gonna bloat the menu too much even for advanced options). I'm about to mark this Canny as complete so if it's not too much trouble could you make another Canny post specifically detailing why you need positional offset as well, and specifically what axis of offset you need? If you can demonstrate that on avatars that don't have an offset wrist bone workaround that would be best.

Kung: Thank you very much for your reply. I've created a new Issue explaining our problem here: https://feedback.vrchat.com/vrchat-ik-20/p/option-to-modify-wrist-positional-offset-values

Valve index controllers bad angles.
ALEKSIS-SENPAI
Hey there, index controllers have a huge problem of the hand angles being off by 10-15 degrees, every single friend of mine that uses index (and if any of them are reading this please comment) has the same problem.
As we all know not all avatars are the same and it would be great to have an option to manually shift the hand angles, as we all know hands in vr are what we use to interact with everything and seeing them not allign with real life ones is simply immersion breaking (and a lot of people will agree with me on this one)
The solution would be instead of changing it for everyone let everyone change it for themselves, either on runtime or in launch options as same as other launch options for ik-2, example "-Hand-y-offset x" where "x" is the number. Same for x and z axis.
Here are some pictures showing the problem, the problem persists on every single avatar, doesn't matter if it's 3, 6 and 11 point tracking.
And as said, having an option to change the hands offset manually would greatly improve the experience.

Would love to see this feature as often I end up almost my wrists trying to compensate for this trying to emulate what my hands actually look like in real life.

There is already a post about this: https://feedback.vrchat.com/vrchat-ik-20/p/feedback-change-hand-rotation-on-index-controllers

Yeah i have seen many other users and my friends have this problem as well. Most have said it is very immersion breaking and wise there was a way to fix this problem i think a fix would be very appreciated

My avatar's hands are rotated about 50 degrees back from my irl hands. Its very uncanny and upsetting. It happens on every avatar. I believe it might have something to do with different size hands having to grip the index controller differently - my friends' avatar hands are also rotated incorrectly, but to a lesser degree more like the image OP posted. The IK assumes that one would grip the controller at a perfect 90 degree angle to the controller, which i dont think is feasable for anyone to do. My hands are more off than others angle wise because I have small hands and have a permanently injured thumb, forcing me to grip the index further up to reach the joystick.
Having a way to change hand rotation and offset would help everyone, both people like me with a very large difference in angle due to disability and also just normal people who want to have hands that match their own properly.
Right now the difference between irl hands and in-game hands makes me feel a bit sick the whole time I'm in vrchat.
I would be very happy to have any method of adjusting this, even if its in a launch option or config doc.

Overall I find there's just often inconsistencies with how hands are handled relative to controllers in VRChat. I play on a HP Reverb G2, and by default all hands are offset a fair bit to the front, and depending on avatar the angles can be off too. I think the best solution here would be some kind of offset options.
