[1236] Use SteamVR rendermodel of tracker instead of what is being used in the beta.
available in future release

I personally don't think the beta tracker models used in the picture below are good for calibrating FBT. I think it would be better to either revert it back to the white balls or use the SteamVR render models so it doesn't take up as much space as the new tracker models do.

available in future release
The option to select tracker model is now available in open beta (as of build 1241)

It would be cool to have a model for the tracker itself and then a toggleable option that allows you to enable the X,Y,Z Gizmo (that looks similar to the one in the unity editor)

i like the models its easier to see the way they are facing for accuracy not like anyone but you can see them. but having a option to change between different models would be nice

Thanks for all the useful feedback! I'm working on implementing changes so that trackers will now default back to the classic spheres that everyone is used to. However there will be a new option to cycle between model types that includes the new axis indicator type, as well as a more rounded box type that still has axis colors on it.
Because the model type will be an option, this also means it will be possible to grab the SteamVR rendermodels as one of the options. (My concerns there were of future/uncommon setups with emulated tracker drivers etc possibly causing problems for a very small subset of people if the rendermodels were the new and only default, but now as an option any users with problems can just pick a different model)
I have these changes working on my end now, but I'm unsure if it'll be through internal review and QA before the next open beta patch. I'll keep you updated once it's in!

Small update: the changes described above are now merged in with what will become the next open beta patch.

The new tracker markers are probably painful.

THE NEW TRACKER MARKERS ARE EXPECTED.
The new tracker markers are probably painful.
In the new beta, The Tracker Markers have a stinging design.
In the new beta, the tracker markers have a sharp design.
This is a good design for keeping track of rotations, but it looks like it sticks in the body.
This is a good design for understanding rotation, but it looks painful because it sticks to the body.
Is there a setting to revert back to the old spherical shape? If not provided, it would be useful to add it. (Because it is difficult).
Is there a setting to revert back to the old sphere? If it's not ready, it would be helpful if you could add it. (because it hurts)

I don't experience phantom pain, but they're just too big and I've never had a problem with the old ones.

Maybe just make the "spikes" shorter ?

Fuuujin: that doesn't solve the problem at hand.

I do agree.. that thing is ugly as hell... Why not just get the model from steam? wether that's your vive tracker, tundra, or whatever. If the tracking system provides a model, just request that. I geteh spikes are for...visiblity? but they're ugly and huge.

I agree these new tracker models are far too large and the fact that they show up when in your menu means that they look as if they are stabbing into your feet, which as someone who has quite strong phantom sense this can be extremely uncomfortable
desick
yeah these are no good in current form. too big and too visible
