It's a very good idea. The pronouns is always displayed on the screen, and does not have a separate disable function.
You can customize the display of any, even the smallest and most insignificant elements, but you cannot disable the entire text field of, in some cases, useless info.
A good compromise would be to display the pronouns when opening the menu, as it currently works with the status.

So the new update is out with no way of hiding pronouns.
Just... why? Who greenlighted this without adding a button to hide them?

This, I have already seen a few people abusing the system with slurs, memes, and long text; I don't wanna see all that. In addition, the UI is already cluttered as it is for someone who is sight impaired. The pronouns being shown at the top of people's profiles is sufficient enough IMHO.
Edit: Added some examples of some "pronouns" that i saw just last night that I wish i could hide.

I much rather learn a person's preferences by getting to know them than having this stuff put in front of my face like some kind of advertisement taking up screen and mental space.
Or going to read their bio is good enough for me because then I'm actively wanting to find the information. In fact, leaving it at that will give people less reason to put nonsense text there as they are already doing because they're using it as another "custom status".

People switch avatars often, so it's important for me to play with nametags enabled to know who I'm speaking to at all times.
However, I think once you know someone and you're aware of who you are talking to, seeing their pronouns constantly taking up your field of vision isn't as useful. You can always access them in their profile (or perhaps by opening the small/hand menu).
Lastly, this is unfortunately just yet another field to put arbitrary text, so there will be a significant amount of people will just be wasting this screen space in general, putting irrelevant and even unsavory things there.
With the above context, I agree that we should be able to disable the additional nameplate field in our settings.
