BT microphone not turning on

Using Bluetooth headphones with a built in microphone doesn't seem to kick the microphone on. Unsure if it extends past specific brands or types but doesn't affect any other app on my specific device, I'm specifically using gen 2 airpods. Elaboration:
Connect headphones to phone
Launch VRC
Audio plays fine
Only internal phone mic used
Disconnecting them causes no issues, I get a notification and audio changes to phone just fine. Reconnecting them also works in changing the audio to the headphones. But the mic is never activated. Attempted launching VRC before and after connecting headphones with no change. Mic input option doesn't seem to exist and defaults to Android default input with no selection option.
Unsure if BT mics are even supported.

Same problem on the Samsung Galaxy S23 in combination with the Jabra Talk 65.
It's like it doesn't switch to call mode like in discord mobile, so it's like in music mode and uses the phone microphone while still giving audio over the headset.
I hope someone can find a workaround for this considering how long this has been an issue that still isn't fixed...
It would make the mobile version of VRChat so extremely useful on the go if this worked properly, or at least gave you the option to use the bluetooth mic ingame instead.

Same issue with Sony XM3 headphones, they have two Bluetooth modes (HQ music or LQ audio+mic), and VRChat doesn't trigger the second one.
Even worse, no mic seems to work while I have those connected.
