Hand tracking on quest support in the future
complete
Zack Hollins
As you mostly likely know, hand tracking was announced for quest during OC6 and it looks incredible. In the future when you have access to the SDK, perhaps look into implementing native support in VRChat? My only concern is that the quest won't be able to perform hand tracking calculations along with rendering the game at the same time, so perhaps have it only if your connected to a PC using oculus link? Hand tracking is definitely the future of VR, but at the moment it removes the ability to have haptics which breaks immersion, however in the case of a social platforms such as VRChat where haptics is rarely used, I feel it would be the best place to apply this feature.

Utilize Oculus Finger Tracking
Blek Camellia
Rift Finger tracking has always been a thing. In this video, I demonstrate how the oculus controllers work using their full potential. This is recorded in Gmod VR using a community made mod. https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/514549575969931264/644585848439832576/VRMod.mp4 You can move your index finger on it's own, your thumb on it's own, and the middle, ring, and pinkie as one, individual from the index, and thumb; all of which use their respective analog controls. (I fixed the wording. Hopefully that helps.)
I think it would be a really cool feature to implement!
From what I can tell, SteamVR already implements this. Either the devs changed this in SteamVR or much more complicated, it was reworked along-side the vive using unity. I believe it's the ladder mostly because any changes I make in SteamVR do not affect the analog controls VRChat has.
Yeah, Rift CV1 is gone, but the rift S and Quest use the same controllers and they work the same for the most part.

We really need this Feature in VRChat of course! I spent myself extra Money for VRC + to help you bring this feature out! What do you think? It can potentially work nicer than the index controller...

It'd be really nice if Quest users could make use of the finger tracking capabilities.

With the Quest2's past updates we've seen some very impressive hand tracking through the built in cameras. you can use this easily in VRchat already, but the hands still mimic the normal controllers (ie. no individual finger tracking or splaying)
I propose vrchat should be able to read the full hand and finger tracking data the quest2 creates and display it.
The advantages of this is adding a ton of communication options, splaying fingers and hand signals are important in communication as well as sign language, and a majority of users already have the technology built in (like 70% of steam vr is quest-quest2 users)
as said earlier, it's almost already like this in game, adding the extra bit of tracking would greatly improve immersion, conversation, and language.
thanks for reading and I really hope you guys consider this

Use Hands as controllers on quest! (And quest 2)

Use your hands as controllers for finger tracking! Have certain gestures (such as making a fist) to open the menu.

Hand Tracking Implementation on Quest (and how it could be done)

Hello! It is no secret that the Quests hand tracking is an incredibly powerful (albiet unutilized) feature of the mobile headset. I find this fair as hand controls in most VR games are still very impractical. In the case of social games however, I believe this can not only become possible, but an ideal way to interact. The following is my idea of how such a function might be implemented into VRChat.
(Apologies in advance for the poor diagrams, was made extremely on the nose, however I think they push the point across fairly well.)
Effectively, my idea is the option to tie a bracelet to human models. This would appear as a regular bracelet during normal activity, however, when the users wrist is flipped to show the inner arm, an icon will appear to
project on top of the bracelet. When the icon is tapped, a holographic screen is projected from the band, onto the users inner arm. This transparent surface would include a dragable circle, allowing the user to move in the direction that they choose to drag the circle, similar to the functionality of a mobile games on-screen joystick.
Additionally, this surface would allow for the usage of gestures, allowing for easy access to the menu. (For example two fingers swiping down on your arm to trigger said menu.)
Now of course, such functionality is heavily dependent on the avatar used, as well if developers even choose to include the bracelet. I believe that a default gesture system would be the best way to go about working around this problem. This would consist of a similar holographic surface, however this may simply be triggered by tapping a floating icon, on doing a finger gesture. The surface would then be projected in front of the user, and would function identically to that of the bracelet.
Now, this idea has some flaws, the primary being that some avatars may not be rigged with arm movement period. This I believe may be overlookable, as I have noticed with some broken avatars, grabbing and manipulating objects is still present, there is just no way to either see or move their hands. This may be something worth looking into in the future, but I do not believe it to be a massive deterrent.
Overall, I believe that a bracelet based movement/menu system is the best way to go. As VRChat is by no means an intensive game, hand gestures would not deter from the overall experience. Additionally, having gestures done on the arm will allow the user to effectively use their body as the surface, allowing for deeper immersion.
I have included diagrams of what such implementations look like. If you have any questions, my Discord handle is Zoara#4125. I can also be pinged from the VRChat Discord server. I hope my idea allows for a smooth implementation of hand tracking. Thank you for your time.

I thought it would be a good idea to utilize hand tracking on quest. Such as being able to sign for deaf people.
