Video players do not work if a yt-dlp user configuration is present
complete
tetrа
I have defined a user config for yt-dlp in which I've specified the
-o
flag. After doing this, video players stopped working. It seems that when VRChat calls yt-dlp
, yt-dlp finds that I have a user configuration and includes the flags I have defined, as shown by the output log:2023.05.24 22:35:00 Error - [Video Playback]
Usage: --no-check-certificate [OPTIONS] URL [URL...]
--no-check-certificate: error: no such option: -o
After removing my user config, video players worked again.
I believe that a potential solution would be to add the
--ignore-config
flag to the command.Log In

The video player stopped working in the presence of a regular yt-dlp configuration file.

If the "%APPDATA%\yt-dlp\config.txt" file contains options that cannot be used by yt-dlp.exe for VRChat
The video player displays "Invalid URL" with the log "error: no such option".
The only workaround seems to be to delete the configuration file.
Can I change yt-dlp to use "--ignore-config" or "--config-locations <PATH>"?

I can't believe this was my issue, I tried so many things.. and seeing the comments that it could be easily resolved by a simple switch.. I'm speechless! Thank you so much for this report!!! Hope they fix it ASAP.

Happened to me as well. Thought it was a video player-specific issue for a bit, then people reported their video players working for them, but not for me. This could easily be fixed by adding --ignore-config whenever vrchat hooks yt-dlp.

Came here to post this same issue. Had no idea why video players all suddenly stopped working for me, took me weeks to figure out it was my yt-dlp config.txt file breaking things.
